Plenty of period weaponry was on display as well.

and lots of funny hats.

As I said, it was a pretty big encampment!

Boot Camp!

I've gotten so used to taking all my pics upside-down and then doing a batch rotation that I took video upside-down too and can't figure out how to fix it!

OK...back to the moto-content.

It was a great afternoon to get out for a spin!

My wife and I made it out to Competition Accessories 50th anniversary celebration this morning too but we didn't get any pics...just free hot dogs, cake, soda, stickers, hat, t-shirts, key chains, coozies...and I even bought some fork oil and a new face shield for my helmet. Good to bump into Jeff there too! I can't believe you recognized me in my halloween get up.

After seeing Cuttle's pics of pretty fall colors up in the hills yesterday I figured that maybe I'd better head for the hills today.

Old NC18

There was just a splash of color in the foothills......I'm hoping for more up higher.....

The color increased with elevation but so did the cloud cover.

I did my best to stick to back roads and avoid 'leaf peepin' traffic.

I met three dualsports near Jonas Ridge...anybody here?

They'd probably just suffered through some crappy riding like this.

My first views of Grandfather Mtn were overcast.....but the sun did pop out as I passed by the other side later on....

Right turn...

....Left turn...

...back and forth and back and forth.

Then I spied this red hillside! Not the best pics but it was cool.

Did I mention that it was a bit breezy?

Silly Pyr....you can't beat me!

What do I see here?!?...some blue sky?!

What the heck....might as well jump in the Parkway parade for a little while.

It wasn't too bad....and Granfather Mtn is looking a little brighter.

approaching the via-duct bridge...

OK....I'm done with this traffic!

Traffic was a little better below the via-duct on twotwentyone.

The colors weren't too bad either.

Looking back up at the BRP via-duct bridge...sorry about the exposure...kinda looking right into the sun.

I decided to head down the mountain on dirt.....looking back up at Grandfather Mtn and the BRP.

Oooops...looks like I'm getting some failed uploads on smuggy

So I'll have to finish this up later........

OK...time to roll

The roads got narrower and the temps got warmer but the trees got greener and the sun set and I went home.

Thanks! ...and Yes!

My wife and I took a little spin this morning to show a neighbor that's new to area around the Crowders and Kings Mtn parks.....

Cool and cloudy with a few rain drops mixed in but not enough to get wet..

He's on an R6 and she's on that ol CB400

Still not much color down around here yet but you can see that it's trying to get started..

Remember the old steel bridge from last winter?...it's in this pic!

My wife and I loaded ourselves up on the old Yamaha this afternoon and jumped in the parade of leaf peepers. We knew what we were getting into......

Most of the cotton has been harvested.....most of it.

Not much color down low yet.....

The colors looked pretty good up high last weekend but there was a storm front with high winds that passed through Thu night and Fri so most of that color was swept away already.

....but there was some pretty nice colors at some of the mid elevations along the blue ridge....

The Mrs. took this shot on the fly with her little Canon A3100

She took this one too!

East side of Hawk's Bill

She caught me in action!

Her exposures are better than mine too....

I guess it's time for me to break down and get a new pocket camera for 'on the fly' shots.....

Her view

My view

It's OK....you can tell me that you like her pics better than mine.

Mine

Her's

One more from me, zoomed in on the Lost Cove Cliffs....

If you should ever get the urge to ride the Blue Ridge Parkway on a sunny Sunday afternoon in October......make sure that you don't have anyplace else to be!

The Via Duct area of Grandfather Mtn was very brown and barren compared to just one week ago...

Still some colors below the roadway though....

My attempts at shooting back over my shoulder while puttin' along in a traffic jam.

The rest of these pics are hers, all taken while rolling along....

It crops

I think this one looks better uncropped.

...but it makes kind of a cool panorama of the Eastern ridge of the Linnville Gorge.

What's the matter?.....are you chicken?

The plan was to ride to Canyons in Blowing Rock for a mid afternoon lunch....traffic was hellish at best!

It was a beautiful day though and our food as great, as always...as was the view.

.....too bad smugmug keeps crashing or I'd show you ...or maybe lucky you?!
