Actually, the single 650's have such a popular following that BMW brought them back as the G650's.

Yup bought my 07 right after college and just got my first job, I'm never gonna sell it! I was just seeing what other single cylinder options were out there for road going only since I'm such a big fan of the DR i want more thumpers!

Savagely savage?
I've got a client who works at a bike building shop near me, and we recently picked up a nearly running (just needs a carb cleaning...) 1994 Savage in surprisingly good shape for $250.... and we gots ta thinkin'
We went looking at the RYCA site, and liked it, but wanted something that felt more vintage. Then I found this photo of one that was built in Britain somewhere, and we both like that one even more! I photoshopped my own 1969 Suzuki T350 tank onto it and came up with the mock-up photo below... Ours will have clubman's and no stock battery box or air box at all. Harley Dyna mufflers bolt right on and can be had for pennies. I haven't posted anything because we haven't even started doing anything with it at all, just collected some parts and brainstormed a bit. I'll start a thread once we really have something to show, but just wanted to chime in here. I think the Savage could be a great power plant for a retro single (I hope so!!) and they can be found cheap all day long, so it's easy to throw a little extra money at them. Wish us luck! Cheers...

Believe me, this is one of the SIMPLEST shim under bucket designs to take the cams out of and replace the shims, if it's even needed. No cam chains to fart with, easy to set timing marks and reinstall the cams. I did it this winter and was pleased at how easy it was. You don't even have to remove the radiator like I did! No dealers ever touch my bikes.

Speaking of Savages, there's the Ryca CS-1 kit:

This looks interesting, I kinda liked my Kawasaki 400cc Twin that I had before I bought my current bike. I wonder if Suzuki is still making these and would consider bringing them here to the U.S.? Or just buy a used Savage 650 and make it into a standard bike... Hmmm...

It would be nice if Suzuki either put the Savage engine into a standard frame, or make a 500cc version of the TU.

I was looking at the GS500 frame on my bench last night and thinking a DR650 lump would fit easily.....it would be so easy for Suzuki to build. Too bad nobody would buy it.
