WABDR to Tour of Idaho - Track Assistance

I'm trying to connect the north end of the WABDR with the Tour of Idaho at Upper Priest Lake.

I've put this track together just from Mapsource, Google Maps and Google Earth. Any recommendations, ideas, or problems just give a shout out.

I'm hoping to do this in late August through Labor Day weekend 2011. I'll ride the WABDR south to north, take this track (once improved) to Upper Priest Lake on the TID as far as Challis then take a route suggested by Idahosam to get me to Cascade. From Cascade I'll route to Weiser ID, then to Unity where I'll pick up the OBCDR to Prineville.

Here's the WABDR to TID track:

Northern Traveler's route

Thanks, I have a copy of Northern Traveler's track and considered it. But it's quite a but further south than I'm wanting to going. Mine starts in Oroville instead of Mazema which is about 100 further north. In addition it crosses the TID 50 miles further south than I want to catch it. So I developed this track more in line with where I want to ride. Just looking for anyone in northern Washington that might have ridden some of the areas I'm looking at and can point out any flaws.

Well.......As things often happen plans changed. In March I flew to Houston and spent a week riding through Big Bend and southern New Mexico with my cousin.

Turns out he wanted to ride his F800GS to the northwest and do some offroad riding. So I changed my plans and trailered to Boise then spent 9 days riding mostly dirt/gravel through central Idaho and all across the southern part of Oregon. I'll be working on a ride report once my cousin arrives back in Houston and sends me his pics. Here's a pic of his bike last Monday

If you look closely, you can see his boot next to the bottom pannier.

Northern Route Revision

I've mapped out some revisions to the Northern Route that will move it farther north starting in north-central Washington over to Priest Lake, ID.

Then, some more changes north of Sand Point.

It's mapped, but I can't get out to ride it until next summer - work is getting in the way!

Once I ride it and look it over, I'll post the updated route on GPXchange and, hopefully, do a ride report on here.

Keep in mind this is just the western end.....

I have mapped, but not ridden, the Northern Route - eastern end - all the way from Basin, MT to central PA.

Then there is the Southern Route - Silver City, NM (or Hachita, NM) over to the southern end of the Pacific Crest Quest.

And finally, revisions to TET-S and Southern Loop. All mapped, waiting to be ridden.

That is my goal for next year, ride and verify all of that - so, I'm taking the year off again.

Oh, I forgot - I've built an extension to Sam Corrado's Shadow of the Rockies that takes it to the Canadian Border in Central Montana.

NorthernTraveler screwed with this post 09-11-2011 at 08:28 AM Reason: added SOR extension

Never let a good photo op pass by, too many times I've rushed to help when I should have taken the shot first

North of Sand Point

Thanks Jerry, but it doesn't look like that will help.

I'm planning on jogging NW from Sandpoint up around the ski area, then heading northward until I head eastward to Naples.

From Naples I'll use my existing route east over the mountains into Montana.

There are no other existing routes over the mountains to Montana between Hwy 200 in the south and US 2 in the north (the Forest Service closed Rattle Creek in 2008 or so). I looked all along there....

I will be adding some more Idaho route on the western side as I'm planning on coming into the state along the upper west branch of Priest River. Hate to lose the really nice stuff east of the Pend Oreille river though.... we'll see what I can do.

Right now it looks like I'll be revising TET-S and SL in late March / early April.

May and maybe June I'll be working on Northern Route westbound from PA to probably Wyoming.

Late August and September /October I'll be working on the western end of the Northern Route, and extensions of Sam's Shadow of the Rockies. Then down to the southern end of the CDR to connect that over to San Diego area.

All of this is subject to change of course.....

Things are looking good though! Mapped out both the main preferred route, also various options if the preferred doesn't work out... sometimes it hard to tell what's gonna work from a map, you just have to get on the ground and ride it!!!!
