Yes, just as you did I saw all of that & already pointed out some of it. You seem to make it sound that the trailer portrays it that some did turn & run from any fight at all.
Not quite the case.
"Where the hell are our fighters going?" Going to attack a group of German fighters, not really where they were supposed to be but not exactly running from a fight.
As Skred posted, ‘it was another Fighter Group that broke formation and chased the German fighters leaving the formation uncovered.’

You are well and truly out of order.

I for one, would appreciate it if you would apologise and leave.

Thank you.

Emm,... Beach, keep in mind that SR is talking about something that he perceives in the trailer for this film. At least a couple of us are not seeing it that way, so I don’t know where he is coming from with that. I don’t think that the film or anybody here is putting down any of the pilots.

I shouldn’t even have to mention that even with the best intentions & plans lots of bad shit happens in war & all to often things do not go as planned.

His reply to in post 2399 to Chazbird is what started this. I thought his reply to Chazbird was a bit strange, off the mark, & didn’t have much to do with Chazbird’s post at all.

Its that comment, as he mentions "the old timers" that suggests to me he IS talking about the pilots, not characters in a movie.

Unless an individual has participated in a two way firing range, they have not earned the right to make such comments or judgements.

Maybe I have missed something. If so, please enlighten me.

We’ve said it before, but it bears repeating; the GS handles in ways a two-story building was never meant to.

Taking collections for Faye Butler Training please spare some change.

He is talking about the pilots, but he’s not dissing them. I think you’re confused. Looks to me like he thinks the film is dissing them, that’s where we disagree.
Much ado about nothing as far as I’m concerned.

Yeah it's a great airplane, I had a lot of fun with it.

One thing I discovered about the Stearman was that it does not have a fuel system that works while inverted. Fuel is gravity fed from a tank in the center-section of the top wing.

I had been teaching aerobatics in a Citabria 7KCAB (which does have inverted fuel/oil systems) when we got the Stearman. My boss gave me a quick check-out in the Stearman, like once around the pattern, and then turned me loose in it. I took another guy up to familiarize him with the airplane and to show off I decided to do a slow roll.

I guess I knew how the fuel system worked on the Stearman, but I hadn't really thought it through. I used the same slow roll technique that I used in the Citabria, which means pushing forward on the stick when you reach the inverted portion of the roll (keeps the nose of the airplane level). This causes a momentary zero G condition. Well when I did this the motor cut out because, of course, the gravity part of the fuel system doesn't work at zero G.

This got my attention pretty quickly. Lucky for me, rolling the plane upright re-established the fuel feed and the windmilling engine re-started.

There is a mirror in the bottom of the upper wing on the Stearman. It is there so the instructor in the front seat can see the student in the rear seat. The guy I had in the back seat that day was an older guy, and a fairly mild-mannered, timid person. I remember looking up in that mirror when the engine cut out and his eyes were as big as pie plates, I'm sure mine were too though.

Sad News

I hate to report Mike Lakin from Charleston, WV crashed his Super Decathlon at Marysville Ohio during his annual airshow low level waiver flight. Mike has been a constant flyer around here and for the Air National Guard. TV 10 Station in Columbus reported his death. Mike will be very missed.

This will be fantastic! Bob Hoover is a true American hero and aviation legend, not to mention one heck of a nice guy. I used to sit on the wing of his P-51 with him at Reno every year following the Unlimited Gold race while he signed autographs for fans. What a time to be a kid who loved airplanes........
