I squeeze the spring with pliers to make the spring fit tight on both ends.

Oh yes indeed... replaced it with a hardware store spring with a wire running through the middle.

On my XR200 I stopped at a trailside bedspring and used 2 short springs, worked as long as I had the bike.

600R tank mounts with 2 bolts in the front, 650L with one in the back, no?

yeah. The 600 has mounting points where the R/R is on the L. So I had to change the front brackets also.

I fabbed my own as well. I went "full wrap" to make it look less like a patch.

Is that an XR600R countershaft with the large splines?

I always put 2 strands of safety wire... Lost one before. Not a fun thing at all!

Yes. I'll defer to Red to fill you in on the details.

I attached the guard to my stator cover with JB Weld. If Rob is no longer selling these guards, you can make something similar from a small piece of aluminum plate.

I was at the bike show last month and I saw a KTM go down on its side and the shifter punched out a hole . If that bike hade one of these guards it may have helped... After seeing that happen in front of my eyes I am making installing my guard top priority when it heats up a bit. Just need to figure out what the best way to fasten it.

That is amazing! will the pinesol do any damage to the rubber parts? How many different beers will be needed? it looks like that is a critical part of the process. The bike sat for a year and has massive crud in the carb guesing it is from the ethanol.

I let the stuff sit in the Pinesol (no water) for a few days, then pulled it out and gave it a quick once over with the toothbrush. I figured it would work, but I didn't think it would work this good!

THANKS B!

Here's my setup, I'd say they certainly can't hurt the subframe support - 2 of the 3 mounting points are on the frame itself so you could argue that it triangulates to support the subframe. In any case I've run them under a pretty full load and never had any issues.
