I fixed my center stand, or rather I cut the thing to pieces and welded it so that it actually works with the bike set at its stock height. When I bought the bike it was lowered 2 inches and the PO fitted it with a center stand that was designed for the lowered bike. I raised it back up to stock ride height last year and the center stand didnt work. Plus the design of the way it was supposed to be operated sucked, it had a small nub to push on, and there was no lever to help lift the bike with your foot. Taking a design cue from almost every other center stand I've ever seen in my life I redesigned it so that it actually works with some effort. Although I will admit that it actually took 3 attempts to get the lever fitted right.
Lowered height with centerstand down, notice the little nub sticking off the one side. ![]() Centerstand assembly off the bike ready to be worked on ![]() Finished product, legs slightly bent, elongated, and lever added, basically everything below the bend is almost new ![]() ![]() and in the up position ![]() ![]() Now I can actually lever the bike up on the center stand without tipping it over on the sidestand first. My only concern is if I need to put stronger springs on it it due to some added weight |

wanted to be a KLR rider
hi all. i am Japanese living in Vietnam and Southern China for my business.
(pls accept my poor English :P) i had placed an order two KLR650 with my friend to the shop in California last July. KLRs were arrived at Saigon port in VN at the end of Aug, The Custom procedure was so complicate here because of many officially & unofficially issues. Finally, all procedure was accomplished a few days ago in Jan,2012 ![]() (tax and other unofficially charges cost more then the cost of KLR) i can be a KLR rider soon (still need another 1 month to get registration plate) i have to read this thread from 1 to the end. < |

I went thru all the same stuff with a 2000 center stand. This time, with an '09, I bought an adjustable stand: http://www.happy-trail.com/KLR650/Ce...d-KLR650E.aspx which is really well designed and works great. |

Yesterday, when ADV was blacked out, I habitually kept navigating to the page just to see if it was back up yet... wishful thinking I guess.
Anyhow, I stumbled across a link on that page (on every ADV page, to be exact) that wasn't dead. The ADV Hall of Wisdom ![]() There are several archived KLR tech/mods posted there. Just an FYI It's always hiding down there on the bottom right corner of every page on ADV.
