Has anybody every had an issue of gas leaking out of there 2002 bandit 1200s after it has been sitting for a long time at cold temperatures, it appeases to be leaking from where the header meets the pipe, just wondering what your thoughts where haven't had time to took in to it yet.
Check your petcock?

YUP and you can get a shut off on line along with a filter if you want to and never have that problem again, or you can rebuild the petcock and always wonder when it will leak again

I'm looking at a couple of Bandits myself. I'm wondering if there is any difference between the 2001 and the '02? A friend of mine has an 02 with around 30,000 kms and the local dealer has an '01 with 20,000 kms on it. My friend's bike is mostly highway mileage and well taken care of. The dealer's - who knows? What to do... Go for the one you know the history on or the one with lower mileage (an '01)?

IMO history speaks volumes and 30k for that engine is peanuts

I rode my 2000 b6 almost 100,000 miles in 6 years with not a single failure. IMHO, these bikes are bullet proof. 10k is no big deal and the 01/02 models are the same. Just buy the one you like and ride.

I'd definitely go with the one from your friend. It greatly reduces the risk that you'll end up with an oil burner.

I read about it on the Suzuki forums - not all that common though. At around 74k my bandit started puffing a tiny bit of smoke upon cold startup - most likely valve stem seals. I'm sure it would have been fine but I had a trip planned and rather than do the seals and timing chain tensioner I found a 2k-mile Katana motor for $500 and dropped it in. Problem solved.

Rode my b12 yesterday for the first time since I don't know when. Felt great being able to go uphill and not have to downshift to speed up (like I have to do with the KLR).

Such a great bike, but that 1250 at the stealer looks nice, too.

Not sure on the years but i think the 2000/2001 BANDIT 12 had a change made in the piston rings in a misguided effort from Suzuki to aid in cooling ...Many burned some oil because of this ..the fix was going back to the original rings used in the previous bikes 98,99, which ran a little tighter..

That's funny because my 01 has 11K on it and I started it last week and noticed a little blue smoke at cold idle then went away as it warmed up. For sure it's the seals....

Awesome feedback guys, thanks! EDIT: Think that I should have mentioned the '01 is $500. less than my pals. But an oil problem is probably not a good one to have when you are buying a bike. Gotta love shopping for bikes...

IMO... I wouldn't buy a Bandit again, very uncomfortable on long rides, powerband is awful, it's built cheap. I should of bought the V-Strom instead. To own a Bandit and say it's a great bike is truly wrong, meaning it's great for what you pay for it which is low end.
