However, the inability to close the deal when the heat is on worries me a little; especially considering the amount of playing time Muschamp could legitimately offer. I also wonder if we signed enough kids. I know the coaching staff was hoping for 30 and fell way short.
After the last two seasons, are you really surprised? I, for one, am pretty impressed that we were able to end up with a top 5 class. It probably helped that they had the ability to use the 'you can play right away' line without suppressing a laugh for a change. If we can put together a couple of good seasons, we'll get better in the recruiting game again. As for the 4* vs 5* argument, I tend to think statistically the numbers matter across the entire class, but individuals and the situation they're put into can affect their performance dramatically (John Brantley comes to mind). Great player, wrong system...

Navy's runnin' scared...

I'm shocked, shocked I tell you, that Navy's coach wants to drop Air Force from its schedule.

More here.

It'll all become clear in the second week of the season, Florida at Texas A&M. It ought to be a good game, and a telling one at that. Damn, I miss college football!

stay classy, Miles...

Don't rag on a recruit YOU failed to land. Makes you look like a douche.

I've never been much of a Miles fan. Now I'm in the anti-Miles camp. What a douche. Sure contrasts with Gundy's "I'm a Man rant."

Quote:
"We needed a quarterback," Miles told the crowd. "We lost two. We needed a quarterback in this class. There was a gentleman from Indiana that thought about coming to the Bayou State. He did not necessarily have the chest and the ability to lead a program, so you know."

What teams have been the worst performers with top talent? (Lot's of 4's & 5's) I think that would be a very interesting statistic.

Bielema accuses Meyer of illegal recruiting tactics

Turns out, the answer is yes.

"There's a few things that happened early on I made people be aware of that I didn't want to see in this league that I had seen take place at other leagues," Bielema said on Wednesday. "Other recruiting tactics, other recruiting practices that are illegal. I was very up front and was very poignant to the fact. I actually reached out to Coach Meyer and shared my thoughts and concerns with him and the situation got rectified."

Bielema did not disclose any details.

The Buckeyes visit Wisconsin on Nov. 17, and there is no telling whether the two coaches will talk more in the meantime.

Two players who gave verbal commitments signed with other programs, including 6-foot-6 offensive tackle Kyle Dodson, an Ohio native who signed with Ohio State.

On Thursday, Bielema said that Wisconsin Athletic Director Barry Alverez will speak with Big Ten Commissioner Jim Delany about Meyer’s recruiting methods.

Watch 10TV News and refresh 10TV.com for continuing Ohio State football coverage.

Maybe sour grapes? Maybe not.... We all know Bielema wouldn't do anything so crass....like go for two up by 30 in the 4th quarter or run up 80 some points on Indiana....

At any rate this matchup gets real interesting before ever playing a game.

Getting and then losing elite quarterback Gunner Kiel was a disappointment, as was four-star linebacker Torshiro Davis' last-minute defection to Texas. Quite uncharacteristically, the top four players from Louisiana -- safety Collins (Alabama) and linebackers Denzel Devall (Alabama), Davis and Otha Peters (Arkansas) -- went out of state.

First team that comes to mind for me is UGA. Richt has managed to do less with more for about a decade. No offense meant to UGA fans, but I live here in Athens, and even the local radio guys say the same. They only managed four or five of the top 25 recruits from the state of Georgia this year which is surprising considering the season they put together last year.

How about Penn State and Notre Dame over the last decade?

If that was a recruit's biggest concern, FSU wouldn't have signed such a highly ranked class.

I think Muschamp must work on is winning the instate recruiting battles.
