Speaking of riding dual sports where they shouldnt be, my buiddy and I both went and bought brand new 2004 DRZ400S models. We were used to dirt bikes, but had never dual sports. We took them out the first week we had them, no mods or anything. We rode out to Cove Creek near Devlis Den and took one of the first atv trails we found, the further we went the rougher it got, but we figured it had to come out soon so we kept on. Eventually it turned into a steep rocky/muddy downhill, we didnt even think twice and cruised down it. When we got about 100 yards down it the hill was washed out! There was absolutely no way around it. No big deal, right? We turned around and started to go up the hill, the damn bikes wouldnt go 5 feet with the stock tires and mud/ slick rocks! We were amazed, and screwed lol! We hiked until we got cell service and called a friend with an atv and rope, but we still had to hike about 5 miles to the road so he could find us. He came and drug us out. What a freaking intro ride to dual sporting!

Are you familiar with the location of the remnants of the old stone house on the road that meanders back and forth across the North Fork of the Illinois Bayou below Mack' s Pines and begins and ends on North Fork Rd? If so, this trail drops off the mountain to the north of the stone house and intersects with that road just east of the stone house, if I remember correctly. It is not far from that big camping area on the Bayou just a little ways off of North Fork Rd.

I have not seen the remnants but it sounds like it's around the Winter Hollow/Mineral Springs area. But that doen't surprise me, last week I rode right past Sara Waterman's gravesite and the trail that takes you down to Big Piney Creek. Never saw eithier one. Ended up on what we call the Alternate trial to Fort Douglas cemetery.

Hey man, we live pretty close to each other, next time you want to do some stuff you're not sure about give me a shout. I love getting in over my head.

I guess there are times when the saying “Misery loves company” certainly applies to riding these rigs whether it is trail related, weather related or self-inflicted. I have not been over my head yet but I've been close to my chin, I think.

Heading our for a short ride with my Son In Law this morning, wow I really need the therapy. This moving crap sure gets old fast. Report to follow.

Met up with my SIL at about 8:30 Wed. morning and headed South.

He has a nice little Sherpa 250 and enjoys it a lot.

Bridge on Colonel Myers Road and later pit stop.

Rolled into Natural Dam about 11am and took Josh out to the Dam. Was running good and pretty this morning.

Little water crossing on Cove Creek.

Got this on the fly as you can see.

Stopped for another break and Josh decided to let some air out of his tires.

Cool little brook running just off to the side of where we had stopped.

Not too long of a trip today as I had to get back to the moving work but was still a wonderful day to be out.
Later ....

Hey, Charlie, sorry, I figured since you were riding on Thursday (and I couldn't) you would be resting up for your ride. Next time buddy.

Tim, we need to get you back in the saddle man!!

Lincoln Loop
via Drakes Creek

So last week, we rode a track that I am working on for SLAP. Today, Charlie and I wanted to "refine" that ride a little bit because towards Lincoln, there is abt 10-12 miles of pavement..and we found today, no matter how you ride it, you will still have 10-12 miles of pavement

This report sports abt 58 pix so sit back and hog up the internet with this download

So Charlie arrives and I meet up with him at the bottom of my MTN

The XR..man she is runnin good!

The morning sun thru the trees

Ledbetter cemetery..wonder if Marcel is buried in there...(Jerry Clower reference y'all)

What a great day for a ride!

Some old history...more of that and some barns to come

Yard art?

Going up "radio tower" road....I call it that because of the ASP radio tower up on top

The view from where the tower is located

Once you get on top, the road is GREAT..and its fast, BUT be aware of the hairpin curves

Ghost Rider

Charlie was mumbling and praying..dunno why

it goes where we go..

Valley View

White River looking south (up stream)

More History

Riding along

this house above, has this view from the front porch

We did stop at White Rock and visit with Ms Paula..sorry, no pix, she was still in her jammies..she reports that they are working on the road below the Mtn and that it should be fixt by 1st of April..just in time for SLAP

We continued on..here is Hurricane Creek

Pavement...actually, hwy 348 near Mountainberg

A short cut (Pigeon Creek Rd) to Mtnberg..can you see what I see..it's in the middle of the pic, thru the trees

A closer look..yep, I-540

So I am following the Chuckster..he stops and says that Mr Garmin says the track is behind us..I call phooey, but we turn around anyway..and guess what..Mr Garmin was WRONG!!

So we have to get to the "other" side of the tracks...looking north towards FYV

Back on track..Locust Mtn Rd..I-540 looking north

Locust Mtn road starts out pretty benign and can be a fast & fun road

and before you know it, it DETERIORATES into a min Pannell road!

this road caught me by surprise and when it was all over and done, it was fun

The sign says it all

So we get to this intersection and Charlies rear wheel is locked up...upon further investigation, his brake peddle is binding..simple solution, toe lift!

More history

More pavement

South Park??

LUNCH!

More pavement

Tresspassed on the Courdin Ranch

Lake Sequoyah

My "Stalker"..and the one I am stalking..so it ballances out

More history

Ride is over so time to send charlie home packing! Tnx man..good ride today!
