But you're building your machine off a 950 frame (if I remember correctly) so you don't have the magnet. It must be in the new wiring harness. That's a sweet machine you're building. I've followed your progress for a while. Pretty neat.

First I must say We the OC are extremely fortunate to have you out of Afghanistan Mikael. The country is erupting after the burning of the Koran incident. The death toll for foreigners is escalating daily. I don't know what the bullshit western corrupt media is reporting but regime change has completely failed and its only a matter of time ............I hope to hell you are not going back!!!!!
http://www.presstv.ir/live.html OK back to bikes and the good life of the workshop. I'm flat out replacing the G'box and Diff on my car........ I only have 3 days so I'm short of computer time. I am completely redesigning my bike .... Lots of carbon, oil cooler, braided lines, Shorei. The enormous weight removed from the front wheel. Still an ADV. Still a fuel tanker. Just a better distribution of weight. It relies on using a fair amount of fuel getting to where the fun is. Also I luv the look of the motor, and hate to hide it under a tank................ sorry back to the car ![]() ![]() ![]()

Well steps are small but a lot of needed stuff is landing right now. Sitting in Copenhagen(catching up with old friends). Update is.
Importent pieces came in. ![]() ECU ![]() Old vs new. ![]() The fit is perfect. ![]() The ignition needed longer wiring. ![]() Got a nice package from the US. Almost complete setup. Disc and fork end(radial mount) is on the way. ![]() Food... ![]() Got a great contact at work regarding aloy for the damper mount. ![]() Had fun with some starter kit carbon. Borrowed a mask from my daughter, put 3 layers on top. Pretty damn strong. Will try refine my work a bit. Bought some more to practice. From this... ![]() To this... I will give it a shot to make my windscreen look "sharp". ![]() Though want to shape it up a bit. I know it needs more but we are starting here...never done it before. ![]() Back to food in Copenhagen. More to come. |

Progress is troublesome these days. I´m not getting much done. Partly my lack of skills and the need of parts.
My safaritanks, which were ordered from the old batch(PE version), should be weldable. But my local plastic welder tells me that it isn´t 100% pure PE. So, what now. Hmmm expensive tanks i cant use for anything. Progress from here is mailing safaritanks and get either the precise plastic code or even better, get hold of 1 kg of the molding material which the old tanks are made of. Yes this isn´t going to be easy in any way. Brakes would and should be the magura setup, but i have recieved the 26mm fork end and needed is the 30mm. Isn´t 26mm the SE size? If this takes much longer i would just order the adapters from CJ. Then i can get a rolling 17/17 setup. My idea has always to get the pices used for 50% of new price. Maybe a grain of patience and the right fork end will show up. Else it all should be there for the complete setup. ![]() and the rest of the brakes, though the fork end is 26mm. 310mm brake. ![]() I will try to make the dash today. The carbon fibre is fun and exciting to work with. If just i could get a 95% result i´m happy. The RC8 cooler is on its way from UK and should arrive soon at the cave. For this to work with the 950 adv frame i need to get some flexible hose. The "stiff" alu tubes in the original coolertubes don´t allow the bending needed. I´ll also try clean up the wiring a bit again. This should be the biggest issues so far. |

You have way more patience than I do. Not much longer and you should have a rolling chassis. Cooler and exhaust and you can fire it up, right?

Ýes cooler and the exhaust should make it a runner. Lots of details to make it nice bike. Patience isn´t my best but there is no turning back now.
Got some fibrework done today. 4 layers - glass, carbon, glass, carbon. Should be sturdy enough for the dash area. ![]() First layer. ![]() 4th. ![]() I have always had the thought that i could make the bike cut better through air. Freestyling...well see if it works. This should be a mold for some carbon some day. ![]() ![]() My tire pressure system came today, along with some michelin Pilot. Mounted them straight away and WOW that was easy. Some soap and bam they are on. Got the rear wheel on and had the idea mount the front to, but needed to slip in the new fork springs. Had some 0.64 and changed with the 0.52. BUT the asshat(me) brike the plastic thingy
God damn. My fat fingers were everywhere because of the hydraulics. Well more parts to get. Oh and got a tripod for the camera. |

Small steps again. Could not wait any more with the work on the windscreen. Had to move to next level and carbon the s... out of it. Well its curing right know and i´m not impressed with the performance. Well how it end tomorrow. 4 layers of carbon should be plenty. Will also cut out the dash tomorrow and work on where to cut for the tachometer. I have not been in any hurry with the carbon stuff, but when it is time again i will make a better place to work with this. Prepping is everything.

You not using the dash from an RC8?

Nope only the speedometer. I´m trying to make my own dash, but skills are apparently needed.

Then there's something I'm missing. If you're using the standard RC8 dash and plugging it into the wiring harness, should the tachometer not automatically work? The RC8 dash has the tach bar across the top. I would think that as soon as you plug the dash unit into the wiring harness you get the speedometer, tachometer, and everything else with it.

hmmm. I have maybe been explaining this wrong. Or my lack of written english isn´t capable of explaining well.
Tachometer and dash is the same. I have been goofing around with the words. And yes i use the dash from the rc8, with this i will be getting some nice features. And in my perspective it is better and smaller than the original from the LC8. Abomination or not. Here is a timelapse of the work with the carbon-wind-disgusting-screen-wannabee-cutting-better-through-air. Not complete finished still need some details(as i say with everything i do in my life...). I´m thinking of clearcoating it again to make it stronger and fibres completely covered. I´m pretty happy it went that good. When i took it of the mold exploded totally. Pretty sharp stuff... Screen. ![]() ![]() Behind the screen i still need to take some of the polyester off. I have not decided how high it needs to be. I will deicide when testing with seat height. ![]() The dash/gps/gizmo mount. ![]() The used mold. ![]() And back home to birthday again. Mine, 31 year old. Wow. ![]()
