Some interesting, to me, discoveries on the new Odyssey in our '95 1100 GS; there are some people here alot smarter than myself so all I will do is post what I am seeing.

I put the battery in and let it feed, used the official BMW gel cell charger, for a full 24 hours, pulled the fuel pump fuse and cranked the starter for periods of approximately five seconds to see when the abs light would do the low voltage wig wag; to my surprise I chickened out for fear of damaging the starter before the lights started doing the dance.

Contrast this to last season with the then brand new BMW agm/gel or whatever the thing is when I got six cycles before the dance.

Whether or not my testing protocol has any merit or real significance is fodder for all the great members who helped me out here, and again I sincerely thank you all.

For what it is worth; if your choice is between the BMW agm or the Bmw wet battery-go with the wet; if you are agonizing over which agm to try avoid the BMW and try any of the suggestions made here, it certainly can be no worse than the oem, if you are losing sleep over whether or not to try the Odyssey I would tell you to give it a shot as it -seems- to be at least three times the battery the Bmw is.

Oh, and I called a local Odyssey distributor to place an order for their official charger-to eliminate any possible corruption of what ever the service life turns out to be and I was told to wait a few months as Odyssey has completely redesigned the charging sequence.

AND, perhaps some can comment on my practice of using the starter after hibernation with the belief that I am somehow getting oil up into the engine, am I really doing anything good??

A much simpler test would be to just put a volt meter across the battery, see what the voltage is while cranking. The voltage dropping too low is what causes the wig wag.

With an Odyssey, there is little reason to use a maintenance charger. These batteries do not self discharge at anywhere near the level standard or gel batteries do. The only time it might be prudent to charge the battery is after a long period when the bike has not been ridden. Even then, I would only put the charger on until for an hour or two until the light turned green. I really believe overuse of maintenance chargers shorten battery life........By cooking them. (I am on my second battery in my '02 RT.........I changed the original LA battery on general principle when it was 6 years old.) Just sayin'.

4wheeldog, once the wig wag starts it will not stop until the bike is ridden for a while-sans abs of course-(funny but I really miss the clink/clink of the abs reset (?) when it doesn't happen) or until the battery charger is used so my thinking was that the battery itself is just short on crank amps. I will check the vd and while I am at it the amp draw also-even after a number of my test cycles the new Odyssey spins the starter like it is connected to a nuke-amazing really.

Does anyone have any thoughts on whether or not the starter will get oil into the engine?

Watch you oil pressure light. The answer is yes, cold cranking without combustion will distribute engine oil.

burnszilla, that is a new name to me; they claim to have nearly twice the kick of the Odyssey, almost a G note for the litium version, gonna do some research on all this, appreciate the heads up.

Ok WHAT is that battery? The forged posts, funky red terminal cover with brass spacers, made in the USA and grey textured case all SCREAM East Penn, but the CCA and AH ratings do not as the DEKA battery of this size, ETX14 is only rated at 220 CCA and 12 AH C/10.

I know where the carbon fiber cased lithium battery is from and the price is insane for that kind of product but I don't think anyone will beat the quality of that battery, but WTF is that B14115 battery??????????

How do you get 360 CCA out of an ETX14 sized case with lead acid chemistry and what C rate is the 15 AH?

My interest is 1 part professional curiosity as I thought I knew every manufacture under the sun using AGM technology and one part personal interest as I have an Aprilia Caponord thats a monster to start when below freezing with an ETX14 sized battery box that should have been at least an ETX16 sized case.

In any case, tried to learn more about Braille but www.braillebattery.com has been hacked by some fuck trying to sell me viagra from some supposedly canadian pharmacy, but I digress.

You missed it...the Viagra is how they get the 360 CCA....something about lasting longer

joel, the forward slash at the end gets you to the battery site-had the same problem.

I'll be interested in what you learn about the Company, from my quick read I left the site with the impression that they make the product, but I'll go back and pay very close attention to the language used.

I guess that joel's instinct is correct, in the Company info page, way down at the bottom, the words 'partnership manufacturing' are used ; now they also claim to have 'made' the worlds first starting lithium battery..

I have been following this thread for awhile and today was the day .
The battery on my 1150 GS has been showing signs of not being well ,and today it wouldn't start.
I bought the Westco from Beemerboneyard . I needed some other maintenance items anyway so I used my BMWMOA discount rather than the ADV discount . The Battery Tender website says that the Junior will work OK if I need it .
It was a matter of convenience . I wanted a battery that I could drop in . The guy that usually works on my motorcycle is going to Daytona for BikeWeek and leaving me to fend for myself . His biggest complaint is getting out of here with good weather to ride out in !

I don't think you will be disappointed, thats a much better battery then the common BMW oem, but if you have a multimeter, do check the terminal voltage before you install the battery.

If it is below 12.6 volts, the battery has been neglected in storage and will not last long through no fault of it's own.

I send any battery with below 12.6 terminal voltage and make the seller eat it.

This last one about 5 years . It still could be ok . It took a charge from my battery tender junior .
