While I appreciate the effort to try something different, I can't help but hope this abominable effort goes stillborn.

Like you, I find it ugly. A Batmobile for the race track.

I can't really even pinpoint why I dislike it so much. It just looks so wrong.

I can't get you tube at the office. What is this thing? A front wheel drive trike?

It's a four-wheel car with a very narrow track. At one time it was posited as a possible platform for the Indy Car series. Indy Car decided against it (rightly, IMHO). This year the Delta Wing will be entered in an experimental class of one at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

I understand why people react negatively to it but I'm curious to see how well it performs. It's being built and campaigned by some capable people.

I don't understand why people reacte negatively to it. Asthetics are one thing and everyone has personal taste, but outside the looks this is development. I think that anyone who believes that the current 4 wheel platform we have been using for a century is the best design possible is being short sighted.

I hope for nothing but the best when Gurney is involved. Does he push some boundaries? Sure. Always successful? No. Interesting project? Yes.

At least Gurney and his team are attempting to do what others fear doing. That would be "something different". Often, great progress has been made in this manner.

The negative response originates with Indy car fans. This... thing... was proposed as the next-gen open wheel racer for IndyCar.

It's many things, but open-wheel isn't one of them. Open wheel is inherently inefficient, so they tried to shroud the wheels. Fail. It just doesn't look like an open wheel race car.

(The current Indy car also shrouds wheels, but at least it's the rear ones, not the front.)

Let them develop it. No problem. But it's a weird looking thing.

Given that Don Panoz is a partner in the project, I wonder what the odds are that the car will run in this year's Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta? Maybe they'll wait to see how it performs in France first?

Curious: The car in the videos is RHD while the one in the photo above is LHD. Different engine air intake too.
