I connected my fan to a HDB waterproof on/off button mounted on the top bar clamp, SXDX. I'll just turn it on when needed. The thermo switch was hosed out of the gate. |

Now the big question is thermostat or no thermostat.
Good and bad of each choice? Is the sole function to warm the engine quicker after starting? |

less temp MORE BETTER
OK since I have done the Water pump enlargement / Samco therm bypass / wetter water in the system the bike is running 10 or so degrees F lower according to the Pro circuit temp strip ( down from 193 F to 182 F approx) on the water pump housing and left radiator and the ambient air temp is up by a couple of degrees ( 75 F ) since my last experiment ( 69 F ) on the same run, however the gear box oil is showing same temp as before 193 F which I reckon is no bad thing !
[IMG] [/IMG]I check the strips on the water pump housing and radiator match temps when I stop riding if they dont then its a good early indicator there is a problem !

530 woods riders
Just wondering how the 530 feels in the woods compared to a 450? I have a 2011 530 for dual sporting and I sold my 300 XCW which was my woods bike. I am looking for another woods bike and may buy another 300 or go with the 350 or 450 XCF-W. I was thinking of riding the 530 for a couple of races to see if I like the power if a 4-stroke in the woods. Just looking for opinions from guys who have ridden the 530 in the woods and single track.

The 450 is a little easier to ride in the woods than the 530, but it's in the same zip code for sure. Try your 530, if you don't like it, you won't like a 450. If you do, you might like a 400/450 a little better. I love it. I ride the gnarliest stuff I can find on it happily, have raced TSCEC stuff on it, I found my 300 stayed parked all the time. YMMV

Question on hose venting. I was riding yesterday and came upon a shallow stream crossing. Very shallow..below pegs. However, as soon as I got mid-stream my bike stalls. I push it out, it starts back up no problem. Now, when I de-smogged the bike, I left my catch can below the bike in place with all but one hose (evap valve) still attached. I also pulled the drain plug...I'm actually using that as my block off bolt.
Should any of those hoses be re-routed? Into the airbox maybe? I didn't expect to stall it in that shallow of a stream.

Seat Concepts
I have a 2011 530 exc that I love but the long dual sport days are putting too much pressure on my brain ( butt!). I have never had the issues that I have with this bike's seat. I bought a tall EE seat that was fantastic on the 06 450 exc that I rode previous but on this model its no good. Wanted a Renazco but they told me today that they will deliver in September! So I am going to order a seat concepts but I wanted to get an opinion on tall vs standard. Tall extra padding made a huge difference on the EE but wondering if anybody has an opinion on the Seat Concepts. Don't need the tall with the 30 inch inseam but I want to be comfy.
Thanks,

On each sid of the carb you will find a fitting with two hoses exiting. Route one high to the airbox, and one low to the cannister. |

David Night seems to make the big bore go pretty quick in the woods even if it is a bit more open than what I prefer to ride. |
