Tire change in Orlando?
I'm delivering my bike to be shipped to Europe with Stefan from Knopf Tours, and need to get the tires changed first. Can anyone recommend a shop in Orlando that will do it for a reasonable price? Due to crappy scheduling I was unable to get it done before I left Albuquerque, but thanks to an excellent reco from some NM ADVers I had a place lined up that was charging $40/wheel. The shop I stopped at in Tallahassee wanted $100/wheel! Help!
Ps I already have the tires, just need a mount. |

I live in Ocala, about 2 hours North of Orlando. Most of the shops here will not touch them unless you buy your tires from them.
That said, I have found a few small Harley/Cruiser type shops that will mount and balance my internet bought tires for $20 per wheel. I must remove the wheels from the bike and carry them in, otherwise its about $40 per wheel. Those are the places you want to look for, the big dealerships won't do it at all, or will charge and arm and a leg. With a little luck, an inmate who is local will chime in and take care of it for you.

Who can help me recall the name of the online site that sells farkles and bike tires that also ships the tires to you or has an authorized shop in your zip code. Motorcycle Superstore? There is a shop up in Sanford or Longwood I believe on Hwy 1792 that will spoon on anything you bring.
...oh, and you can bring in a wheel or a whole bike, your choice.

Well, I went with the independent shop rec and found these guys in the yellow pages:
http://www.bikesonlybodyshop.com/ They did a great job for $30/wheel (wheels still on bike), and Dirk has forgotten more about bikes than I'll ever know. Great shop, I recommend them for anyone in the Orlando area. |

I've used this shop a few times. West of Orlando though.

I use Cycle Gear in Daytona. About $30 per tire off the bike.
There is one in Orlando too. I would call first. www.cyclegear.com Mobeer |

If any of you are in Ocala sometime looking for tire mounting, check out Hogs Angels. The owner does the work, and he really gives a shit if your balancing is correct. He spent over 30 minutes balancing my DRZ wheel with a rimlock. He was the only local shop that had 1oz spoke weights in stock, and mounted used ones that were not chrome to save me some dough. Very cool dude, and he doesn't charge enough, so I always give him extra.

Thought I'd give a shout out for Knuckledraggers in Starke. They hooked up a friend of mine with a beemer that needed a tire. Mostly Harley but they helped him out in a pinch. No one else in the area had an 18" rear tire. Good folks!

I haven't looked to see if it already exists, but a good idea would be to start a thread of good shops in the area.
