1Gb memory in a 276C? - Page 3

1+ gb 276C memory cards were explained to me by an eastern european individual as follows: Garmin sells memory sticks of the type that fit the 276c that are larger than the 512 empty one we can buy in the USA, that are preloaded with maps. By some method that was NOT explained to me, those maps were erased, and then the stick could be filled with maps of your choice. In eastern europe...and especially Russia, the european version of the 276C...the 278 is MASSIVELY popular, and there are sites and companies that have specialized in hacking into the 276 & 278.

All this tells me garmin is stupid for not creating a "276C style memory stick" that will hold the more modern microSD memory chips, and an upgrade to the internal software to communicate with the microSD. It was hinted that this had been done on an experimental bench test with a 278.

I wanna hear about some one from this board actually using one of these cards and it being able to be completely loaded full and then being accessed totaly from the 276/278/376... Seems no one wants to be the guinea pig.

I am truly not discounting that your data cards work, I would just like some feedback from some one residing in the USA who has purchased one give their feedback. With the cost of materials, the 2 gig eprom and soldering time, I would think you could afford a couple sales below cost to generate some good will and allow a few folks the chance to test and give their feedback on the 2 gig module. There are a lot of folks on this forum still using and buying used units almost as quickly as they are posted in flea market. I know I would love to get rid of several small cards and put everything I need on one big card that resides in my 276C permanently.

The one post n00b is from Sweden. It does make you wonder when someone wanders in and registers to put up a testimonial.

I don't have $150 burning a hole in my pocket right now to do this, but maybe later this year. It would be lovely if this was really a solution to loading all my mapsets in one shot.

Hold tight, I have gone ahead and sent monies. I will post back as soon as the item arrives, my purchase experience and how well the card works in my 276. Really hoping this goes smoothly as I would dearly loved to not screw with another memory card for my GPS, one is plenty and 2 gigs should suffice.

Well Fasttrack there are plenty of folks watching your success and the performance of the provider, and his product. The 2 gig card for the 276 here and the 278 in Europe and Russia will give those devices a new lease on life. We love the product....Garmin could careless......
