Frames too! Great! Those engines do look "low miles"... Nice score, I'm gonna start searching for other military surplus auctions!

By the way...if you get a head or barrel etc. from Eagle Mike, he scored many and big time at this auction too. I just cherry picked the best two. So clean, mine would be ridiculous to part out.

govt liquidators website is not user friendly...and I had to bug them to get a preview which only lasts around 20 minutes usually.

That rotor doesn't look too hot. Can you take it to a good machine shop for a quick surface grind? Always a good idea to give used bikes a thorough going over.

Nakedwaterskier...Glad uship.com worked out for you. I've been using them for a few years now and very satisfied...both personal and business. I've had a couple offers on my extra engine but still haven't taken the time to do a partial tear down to see what kind of condition they are in. I'm not going to sell until I'm comfortable in what condition they really are in otherwise I'll let it sit on my shelf. Like yours no real visible wear on the outside and one looks like it also sat outside for a bit. Visually, the worse is a bit of overspray when they painted the frames desert tan on one of the engines.

the guy who bought my extra engine already slapped it in his bike and loves it.
no smoke and he says pristine I think the easiest way to figure out the condition is to pull the valve cover and the clutch side case you can see how much metal is in the oil filter(probably the original) and how much metal is in the oil screen below the clutch and you can clean the screen also you can see how much corrosion on water pump shaft...all this is easy to do in carrying frame but not in bike |

I am assuming this may be a good thing. I work for the Federal gov't with the Dept of the Navy and maintenance is crazy. Just about everything is spotless. Hopefully the Marines take good care of their stuff.

Speaking of that subframe upgrade....has anyone here ever broken theirs?
And under what circumstances? ![]() I'm interested because although I do off road occassionally I typically do not do so with luggage. |

I did the subframe bolt upgrade. I did not do the full drill thru eagle-mike kit.
Unless you are heavy and/or ride very hard off road, you won't break the stock. The stock bolts often come loose and need to be torqued/loctited. With the bolts avail. for 4 bucks at Lowe's, why wouldnt you do it? |

I did the drill through mod, it was a PITA, used about a gallon of cutting oil and made a huge mess but it's over and glad I did it......

oil burning question
2011 klr w 3300 miles
I never had any oil burning issues when I was using Rotella 15 40. When I switched to Mobile 4T 10 40 at 2500 miles, I burned a qt in 800 miles. Any thoughts?
