I took the rig to a Garand match today. I took the seat out to fit the rifle cases in the floor of the hack. When I got home, Bryson saw the cushion out and assumed it was his time to ride. So SWMBO put on his doggles, and he proceeded to beg...

And eventually I gave in...

I really wanna take my dogs with me on an upcoming camping trip, but I don't want to buy a sidecar and spend a fortune.
Aside from tank and tail bags, are there any other alternatives for a KLR 650?
Anyone build anything cool?
Mind you, my two dogs are small, but they can be rambunctious.

Correct on all counts. Held in place using three different attachment points. Lots of reinforcing plates to prevent the bolts from tearing the plastic, and attached to the rear rack, the grab rail, and then strapped to the side rails for extra support. Some hardware shown below:

A thick piece of EVA foam filled in the floor, and then a thinner EVA foam mat sat out the front to give him leg room. The cut-down top allows him to sit up. He was protected from the bugs and stones by me being in front, but he still got the wind. Biggest ride was three x 900 km days straight! He's done two 1,000 km minimum rides with FarRiders, our Aussie long distance riders, so he's a well-travelled boy.

I actually have two dog carriers. One smaller than the one in your pics, and one larger.
I suppose I could cut the small one down and mount it similar to yours to have one dog in the rear, but then I have to figure out where to put the other dog.

I found this dog-mobile on the internet and I think it is one of the neatest hacks I have seen so far, as far as something to carry a hack pup in. :-)

Bryson has informed me that he prefers the windshield off for rides. Human passengers tend to prefer it. I'm kind of getting annoyed at pulling out tools for this every week. So yesterday I went out on a quest for a 8x1.00 wing nut. Bryson has done a few rides thus far, and I figured this would be a great test, especially since Lowe's is his favorite store.

So I loaded him up and took the long way, right through downtown where there were lots od dogs, pedestrians, and distractions. He took it all in stride, and we even made a gas stop. He behaved perfectly and even posed for some photo snapping tourists.

Now the next test is to start stacking some mileage. He just might be ready for June vacation after all.
