...they are by far the best of the hard cases out there IMO. Narrower profile and more capacity than any of the others, plus the lid storage is really nice.

I hear you, I like mine too. I like the looks of the new bracket system though, it has a cleaner look. However, the old style bracket system that I have, has saved the ass-end of my bike a few times. I don't think the newer one would hold up aswell?

I was doing some wrenching on my '03 Dakar and for shits and giggles put a voltmeter on the battery and WTF...it read 12.2V to 12.4V at any rpm.
This can't be right, can it?
It has a new sealed battery as of last year and the previous owner replaced the VR
2 years ago.

my volt meeter on my 02 will get up to 14v sometimes

Went to start mine after a last weekends ride and.......3v ...... got her going checked the charge rate 14v (normal)

I have the same color '01 I bought used in '09. I see that the fuel tank anti-scuffs fall of other Dakars too....

I just ordered more, put 'em on and they fell off too. I'm getting some automotive silicon next time.

What brand are the fork seal covers you have there?

I didn't bother putting those things back on. That bike has taken a beating and keeps on going.

The fork seal covers are "Seal Savers". They have longer ones that will cover up most of the fork tube, these are the shorter ones. I bought the Touratech fork guards first, but they're not any good for keeping dust out of the seals. The longer ones should be good enough for keeping the forks protected also, so you wouldn't need the TT guards.

yes they are, i have a 02 and they seem to keep going and going. on the forums a guy had about 350,000 miles and still original motor.

yea reading this thread made me trade my 1150gs for the 650 dakar with no regrets.

Ok. what is the name of the little lever that the clutch moves, thats connected to the case??

Asking cause mine is cracked pretty bad and need to order a new one, cant figure out what the blamed thing is called. if need be i can take a picture...

The Chaingang FAQ calls it a fork lever or a fork arm...
