So glad this RR was good for something, haha! Quote:
But, I can't do them too often - you guys would be so sick of all my stupid old jokes... ![]() A little littlewan goes a long way... Quote:
Is this a test, sion? ![]() And, no it's not Katja. I did a little detective work and that's Cali Luv. You're welcome! Quote:
![]() All right you guys, I'm behind again. Sorry. It's easter weekend! Went for a ride today (250 miles) and tomorrow is an all day family fest. Back to Death Valley on monday... In the meantime, here's a few pics from our day ride... Ride details in that link (above). Started off in a group, taking photos and freaking people out by passing them... ![]() Explored a little by ourselves (this started off as single track) ![]() We tried it 2up, but couldn't. Not enough Mo'menum ![]() Went down, but no biggie (Tn Walrus - I didn't hurt my foot!! woo!) Matt did it on his own. ![]() Met some cool ADVers (JustPaul and Jill) ![]() Did some more exploring...(with Bartek990) ![]() It was a good time! We have about 2000 miles on these Scorpion Rallys now - the back was pretty whupped already, but it got bad by the end of the day... ![]() Front's still looking good, though... ![]() I know I made everyone cry last time (summer of stupid) when I told them that there's no easter bunny, so I won't do it this time. ![]() Hope you all get some good (dabracing and Questor can scroll down to the bottom of that link...you, too, sion )Sorry, no Passover nudies for our Jewish friends - can you guys just sub matzo crackers for the peeps? thanks

You're welcome! I have a feeling that it will be a while before anyone else claims the Playboy magazine prize.
In the meantime, a guy who takes a big twin out in the rocks could probably use all the help he can get! We stopped at Starbucks after our day ride on saturday and enjoyed some drinks - your treat. ![]() Thanks! Day 5: 3/15/12 Total mileage 165 PSR - Goler - Barker Ranch - Mengel - Geologist Cabin - Mengel - Goler - Ballarat - Charcoal Kilns - Goldfish Pond - PSR It wasn’t even 2pm when we left Ballarat, so we decided to swing by the charcoal kilns. Here’s a map ![]() ![]() ![]() More pavement. ![]() Turns into gravel. Bumpy gravel. ![]() ![]() Here they are - the charcoal kilns! ![]() There are 10 of them. More info here. ![]() ![]() Can you tell how big these are? Here’s Matt standing at the entrance, for scale. ![]() Backsides. ![]() It was like being in a little, teeny, miniature Pantheon. ![]() Didn’t really take any flower pics on this ride. Does this pinecone count? ![]() How ‘bout a hairy cactus guy? ![]() Here’s a screen capture from a link I almost used. ![]() ![]() We hung out under a tree and had some trail mix and water. Then, it was back on the road. ![]() ![]() ![]() I realized that I didn’t have a good pic of a Death Valley sign, so we stopped at the one on Panamint Valley Rd. Matt helped liven it up a little ![]() ![]() It was early enough for one more stop, so we decided to see the goldfish pond that Phil and John had been talking about. The road in wasn’t very fun. Full of tourists and Baby Heads. ![]() The crowd disappeared once we passed the turnoff for Darwin Falls. ![]() We probably should have stopped, as the photos I’ve seen of the falls were pretty, but at the time we just didn’t want to deal with cagers. (looks nice, but I don't think we would have made the hike. can lazy people see anything good there?) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I see greenery! We’re close. ![]() Here we are! ![]() Where is everyone? ![]() They came out once they heard us talking and saw some movement. ![]() ![]() Matt thought it would be neat to stick the camera in the water and take pics of the fish underwater. Hmm. "Do you trust this thing?" "Nope." "Me neither." ![]() Oh well. Have you seen those underwater dog photos? Take a look, they’ll make your day! we used to have a dog and he was a diver. I love those pics so much. ![]() Matt was just fooling around, so I took some shots. He thought this gif was too silly - like a kid jumping a curb on his banana seat bicycle - but I don't have much else for you guys... ![]() ![]() Back through the little watercrossing. ![]() And, back to PSR... ![]() Our stats. ![]() We were all set to make astronaut food for dinner, but the neighbors were making tri tip. ![]() Man, did it smell good...I'm not a big meat eater, but even I could appreciate the yummy aromas... Matt went over to "say hi" and ogle the meat. Mmm...meat. ![]() Needless to say, after all that drooling, they invited us to dinner. ![]() ![]() (those are our hosts, Mary and Mike, in the background. Excellent cooks and very sweet people. ) ![]() ![]() ![]() They live near Shasta and Mike caught these rainbow trout the night before they left. Mary cooked them with lemon and fresh dill and it was amazing. The best trout I've ever had! One of the nicest things about riding and camping is the people you meet, and this group was exceptional. So warm and friendly. The gang (Mike, Mary, John, Phil, Sharron, Roger, Chuck and his wife Marilyn) met through a BMW club and now they get together every year for riding and camping. I'm not sure about the details, but I think they said this was their 3rd annual gathering in DV. (good timing for us, huh?) ![]()

Very much enjoyed your company, also. Can't believe you two traveled that Swansea - Cerro Gordo road! Yes, Sharron, Roger and I did it the nest day. One of my best ride, too.
We'll have to swap photos and stories one day. Chuck & Marilyn

sigh. I wasted all mucking morning on this little task - thanks. ![]() (had to edit a super long video to get this watchable bit) Now I'm behind again! (I'm just giving you a hard time, I'm always behind The last time he did Echo was on the boys trip in january, so I wasn't there. Those guys suck - couldn't find a single photo showing the 990 in echo, but you can kind of see the 990 windscreen in the beginning and at the end. There's probably more video somewhere, but it's trapped in someone's stupid phone. ![]() OK - disclaimers... Not matt's best effort, but the only "proof" he has. Filmed with his super-crappy Oregon Scientific helmet cam ($79 back in 2006). Anyway. See! The 990 can do so much more than it gets credit for... ![]() And, yeah, it's not (entirely) Paul's fault that I'm not ready to post... Quote:
Of course, I couldn't just leave it with that... Behold! The LittleWan "Pain and Tension" (paying attention) Award... ![]() <------- scottmac!I know, it's a bit much for finding THE photo of a girl in a bikini , on a page that consists entirely of photos of the exact same waterfall...But, I appreciate the fact that you looked at the link and took the time to post the photo. A for effort!! Okay you guys, you can tell I'm losing it, huh? I only have like 2 more posts left for this report! |
