look for and older timber wolf they used 1X2 box tube.
wells cargo uses a heavier channel in like a 1X3 for side walls.

The problem with what you want is you will lose what the roof gives the trailer in stability.

find a flat top and renforce the roof and just build what you want off that..

It really sounds like it might be easier to build from scratch, even if you farm out the welding of the superstructure. What are you going to end up unaltered from a trailer anyway?

my haulmark trailer is z-channel. I was afraid when I was cutting out supports it would buckle... but it didnt. With my narrow trailer i cant sleep from side wall to side wall - If I could it would give me lots more room.... I am getting ready to cut the wall a make a tip out for my feet. Or if I could buy a tip out bed this would be great. I cant find anyone who sells them....

That would work.... make two metal rings to encircle the entire inside walls.... bolt them to the inside wall... cut between the rings... I was thinking of also chopping the top on mine to give me less wind resistance (crank down and pop up)

I like the idea of the cargo trailer conversion - using it as a bike hauler and then pseudo camper. Here's what I want and why: I really want a rolltop (like HTCA's Haulmark) so that I can cut the entire roof off where the bend begins and build a poptop mechanism that raises and lowers the whole shooting match maybe 1-2 feet with a screen and canvas surround like any other poptop. I really don't want it for headroom - I want it for a sleeping platform so that I don't have to sleep in the cargo box with all the gas and oil that will end up on the floor from dragging around bikes and other dirty crap. My intention is to completely isolate the sleeping platform from the box save an access hatch from the interior.

So here's the question for those that have owned cargo trailers: Do you think that the uprights can be cut like I'm thinking about? Anyone ever seen or attempted such a task??

I've gone through all of the sites I could think of and nothing like what I've described...

Annual bump

I recently put up for sale thinking about upgrading to a 7x14....but I love this trailer!
110volt outlet, solar vent, crank out windows x2, camper door (wish it had a rear ramp door instead of barn doors) and Rotopax

Nothing special inside, I just use the Camo-Cot bunk beds when camping. It's warm and dry.

If I wind up keeping it, I'm thinking of insulating and finishing the interior.

Happy Camping.

I saw this thread and had to jump in.

I just picked this baby up, its a 1999 Cargo Master with a torsion axle w/brakes, ramp door, 3 windows, Cabinets across the front, 30A RV hookup, 13500 BTU AC, and Tie Down points in the floor

My plans are to use it as is with a walmart cot and eventually in no particular order
1. Condor wheel chock
2. LED Lights
3. group 27 marine battery for the lights.
4. maybe some Etrack or similar.

and that's about it, throw in the rest of my camping gear and I'm set for a road trip west.

camp trailer

I will try to get pics of my Carson trailer up. They are from out west and are a great starting point. RV style side door, white finished walls and supposedly a walkable roof.
