Windows Version Garmin MapInstall 4.0.0 Released Officially
This new version seems to be good news for the New Generation of Garmin users, people who've got the Montana, Oregon, 62/78, eTrex 30 etc, but not so good if you're a Legacy gps user with a 60/76CSx or eTrex, etc.
HardWorkingDog received the following from a Garmin Tech about version 4.0.0 for Mac, and I assume it'll be the same for the Windows version:
"Yes, I am sorry but the newer version of MapInstall is going to be a bit of a challenge with the legacy units, such as the GPSMAP60CSx.
Mainly because the only image file the device can read is gmapsupp.img whereas the newer units can read named mapping. Whenever one sends mapping to a legacy unit it will automatically replace what is on the SD card, so the application is not going to prompt that there is a file there. "
Here's the Change Log for version 4.0.0
Changes made from version 3.15.0 to 4.0.0:
Added ability to automatically send all current map products to newer devices if possible.
Added ability to send full map products to newer devices rather than needing to select individual map tiles.
Added display of how many map tiles are selected.
Changed the map selection page to no longer list map products that are locked for the selected device.
Here's a couple of screen shots I made on my computer today. (Never mind the yellow arrow - it's there to obscure my serial number)
