This route gives two options to/from Fayetteville to Shores Lake. It has pavement at the beginning out of Elkins. At the time I did this, the only goals I had for the ride was to take our Lubbock-bound friend to the cabins at White Rock, down WarLoop, and then on any other good roads in that region.
Note the green "Firebreak Bypass" route. Firebrake Rd is not big-bike friendly and is a gummy-mess if wet. I suggest taking the green bypass for the more timid (aka, me). As Doc noted, the route called "april_2012_long_route.gpx goes over a closed road, which has no opening date planned. So, DON'T download the "Attached File" below. For an updated route: Right-click HERE, and "Save Link As", and save the file to your computer (otherwise it just launches to the code in your browser). The file is called "143FayShoresLake.gpx". DON'T USE THE BELOW FILE!

Tim..I see a flaw in your route there..you have it going thru a closed section of White Rock Mtn Road..no biggie tho, we can go around it pretty easy...just wanted to rag ya on it some!

This is awesome! Now if I can just find me a job back in Arkansas again! Kansas sucks, and riding up here is like following the lines on a sheet of grid paper

This is a ATV trail over some rough terrain..you need to have near expert skills here...steep in spots and rocky..two washouts that I know of that can be navigated, WITH SKILL! Note the waypoint..this is "about" where the trail exits out onto Bidville Rd, contiune east on bidville back to White Rock turn off
This is both ROUTE and TRAX Mapsource 2010.1 DrLewall screwed with this post 04-30-2012 at 03:50 PM |

DETOUR! From the South
From either direction, Fort Smith or Little Rock on I-40
Roughly 21.5 miles to WR..9.5 of it is paved I-40 to exit 13 or hwy 71 north towards Fayetteville. Go abt 8.3 miles to hwy 348. Turn right and drive 8.5 miles. Hwy 348 will tunr into Old Lock road and they are basically, one and the same. At the 8.5 miles, you are at the cross roads of Warloop Rd and Fern Rd..continue straight ahead for another 5.3 miles to Hurricane Creek Rd, turn right. Follow Hurricane another 7 miles to the White Rock entrance. Mapsource 2010.1 Both a ROUTE and a TRACK DrLewall screwed with this post 05-11-2012 at 09:04 AM |

Hey Doc, could you post a file that shows a waypoint where the road is closed? Lookin to camp at Shores Lake for SLAP but someone told me that you couldn't get to WR Lodge going up Cr-75 and Cr-76. Never mind, I just saw your post on the SLAP thread.

DETOUR! From North from Shores Lake
This is a 19.6 mile detour from Shores Lake, all dirt!
If you are camping at Shores Lake, this is probably the better way to go to WR without having to ride on Hurricane Creek road. Come out of the campground make a right go up the hill, county road 75, go 4.2 miles to the T intersection, CoRD 76..turn right and go 3.8 miles to Mineral Hills RD..turn left (North) and go 5 miles to Bidville Rd or NF 1506. Turn left and go 2.5 miles to Bear Hollow Rd or NF 1505..follow that 4 miles to White Rock Mapsource 2010.1 Both ROUTE and TRACK |

I plan to leave White Rock around 9:00A.M. Saturday If I can get there on time.
