Thank you for sharing your epic trip across the USA on your Honda C70! And as many people have mentioned, your writing style is superb. It's wonderful to see people seeking true adventure by riding vehicles that most would be afraid to take farther than 10 miles away from their garage

Four years ago three friends, my brother, and I rode cross country and back on vintage Japanese machines.

http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=366117

It seems like most of your most memorable moments were when Buddy broke down, and you had to ask strangers for help. The breakdowns during our trip are what I remember the most fondly as well!

Your trip is inspiring me to take a tour on this thing:

It's a 1965 Honda S90. It gets over 100mpg and can go 200 miles on a single tank at 50mph As you said, the slower you go, the more you see!

That trip four years ago, and writing the report on ADVrider, really changed my outlook on life. After graduating Cornell with an engineering physics degree, and spending three years in grad school here at Penn State, I have made up my mind to take a chance and follow my passion for vintage bikes by starting a small motorcycle business here in Central PA. Going to work every day to do what you love is the best feeling in the world, even though money is tight

Anyways, thanks for taking the time to share your adventure with everyone; see you in the slow lane on your Super Cub!

Vanya

Vanya, I remember when you did this report, great adventure for you. Sorry for the hijack Rafael.

awesome adventure. I'm sure you'll have many more.

I didn't have time to read it all tonight but got sucked in and did anyway.

Thanks for sharing.

I'm sure I'll find other ways to get in trouble just staying put.

Bravo

Great RR my man. I read all 40 pages and I just couldn't put down the iPad. Very cool journey and thank you for sharing it with us in such color and detail. I got to take that journey with you by the way you painted it with your words. I needed that.

I agree great ride report.
I also am amazed at the parallels with George Wyman's 1903 ride across America on a 1 1/2 hp motor bicycle. See: http://www.ridetwisties.com/Across%2...20Bicycle.html

Rafael,
We met you at a Dairy Queen in Indiana. 2 couples riding to Pittsburgh. You had a bent chain adjuster. I was blown away by your story especially when you told me your age! That August I told my students about you and the value of a dream and putting it forth.
I hope all is well with you.
Well done!

Stayed up past midnight last night reading this beginning to end- what a great story, and what a talent for telling it. Great report, looking forward to seeing more down the road. I can tell you that the next 10-15 years will happen fast (I’m 33)- one day you’ll look around and notice that you’ve got a house, wife, kids, all kinds of stuff, etc. and wonder how that happened. In my mind, I’ve not changed a lot since 17-18, but then again, I know I have.

Best of luck with college and thanks for sharing a part of your life with us.

Hey Alex!

Everything is fine here, just getting ready to move on out to the Bay Area, I decided on UC Berkeley. Thanks again for the advice you gave me back then. I guess that adventure will haunt me for life, but that's a good thing!

Hope you and your students have a wonderful rest of the year.
