#5 told me this morning's section was very fast and he couldn't keep up with the 950 on his 350. He also got lost but the main thing was top speed. Gilkey pulled another 10 minutes or so on both Smith and Holcomb. The section they are on now looks a little more technical...

If no mistakes or technical issues, Gilkey should be looking good for tomorrow. He could stop for a shave and haircut.

His wife posted on facebook last night that he put a hole in the clutch cover and lost all his oil. not sure how far he went before he discovered it. Hopefully it didn't trash his engine.

spots

I think the mountainous terrain is playing havoc with the spots, C.Vestal's spot went from hwy1 to the coast in one big jump, and some of the others on spotwalla are backing up

Small thread jack:

I was wondering what was up with the remains of the airplane in the background of this photo below. Then I stumbled across an article on a piece that the discovery channel is doing on making plane crashes more survivable. Turns out they had crash tested that Boeing 727 seen in the background. Crazy coincidences I guess.

The penalties he had listed earlier were only a function of him not having times entered for the first day due to a lost time card. Once his actual times were put in from the logs, the penalties disappear. And while he was 20 minutes late for the start this morning, there's a 30 minute window, so no penalty there either.

Cheers,
Anders

Well, his special times are pretty special now that they are posted! On the other hand, there aught to be a better way for teams (and their followers) to know where they stand after every day, if not stage. Sort of a bummer for everybody to learn he has a commanding lead with one stage left!

Just an observation, though. I have no stake in this event, other than trying to follow it as a fan. It's a new thing and seems like fun.

Maybe if I know somebody in it next season, I can ride the transits like Malcolm
