So I really at this point don't have a great need to get larger side cases than these little jobs. If I had longer trips at my disposal, yes probably would. But I can cross that bridge when I come to it.
shady, thanks for post your packing tips. I'm rigging my DR for travel and camping and think I'll need to make some changes from my GS setup

A different combination

I have Dirt Bagz and and I bought some Nomad Out and Back bags with the idea of using them together. The Nomad Bags carry everything I need for day rides. The Ranger bags would be able to carry everything else with the addition of a dry bag for tent and sleeping bag.

The day ride set up.

For camping

The packing this way is easier since items for day rides and camping is packed sperately. The dry bag only weighs 8lbs. I don't like bags on the seat and this set up leaves the seat open to move around on.

I have a hatchet and a folding shovel mounted to the bottom of the rear rack that stays on all of the time. I have the same set up for Cathy's XT225. We do split the load so that I carry heavier gear and she packs the lighter items.

Here is my 2002 Super Sherpa on a quick camping trip this weekend.

Coleman 4 person tent divided between the two saddlebags along with raingear, ten poles strapped across topcase along with Go-Kot and sleeping bag, mini pillow etc. Clothes and small stuff inside top case. Sometimes i take a sleeping pad to insulate the bottom of my cot, I just strap it across the seat.

Thanks for the post!

"inquiring minds want to know..."

That's a clever little farkle that holds the fuel bottles - did you make it?

Why does the top of your Pelican box look all waffley, is there something clever going on there?

Actually the PO was a rather gifted metal fabricator, it's something he built. The waffley looking thing is a metal grate mounted to the top of the pelican case that gives you a tie down point while still allowing the lid to be opened, also very slick, though my offroading buddies are calling it "the sawblade" or "widowmaker".

Love all the mounts. Especially the MSR fuel bottle mounts. Will have to put some pics up of what I have done.

Haven't travelled for some years, going on a new 10-day trip this summer. But here pics from my setup from my Norway trip some years ago

Looks like alot of stuff, but most of the space is my air bed (I put that in the luggage sack right behind my back, comfortable). I use a TNF Tadpole 2DL tent (perfect for 1 person + luggage).

Here's mine.....From the 2012 Mayday Melee this weekend in Rio Nido, CA

That's a Tenere Expedition tent, a "Fat Boy" Kermit chair and a folding table strapped to the seat. The rest of the crap for a 1000 mile 3 day weekend went in the bags. I did have coffee fixins and a Jet Boil but no mess kit as we were camped behind a road-house.
