blast from past
OK here's another one from 1983.
On our way to the races at Laguna Seca. This was the year that, if you bought your tickets at Capitol Yamaha, the package included one lap on the race track. I'll never forget that! Twisting through the corkscrew. Taken from our support vehicel, a my 77D, a 79 special, and a CX500 water cooled thingy. ![]() On a more up to date note... The latest on my binding auto advance rod. Pulled out the rod and chucked it in a drill. Ran 320 sandpaper on the bush riding surface, checked, ran some more. Back in action returning with out bind. This binding was on the pick-up/magnet side. I still don't know why I was experiancing this, but told that it sometimes happens.

Actually it's still legal in many states if all the seatbelts are in use. A little known fact that many cops often aren't even aware of. Print out the law and carry it in the glove box if you feel like exercising it. Most predominantly rural states with large agricultural areas have kept a law on the books allowing riding in pickup beds as long as all the seatbelts inside are being used. I live in Mexico now though so we ride in pickup beds all the time... and drink beer while doing so. Land of the free my ass.

![]() then again, most times you think of a photo after the event when it's too late! ![]() Like I said - after the bike has been picked up, when we dropped 'Kenny' with trailer going into 'TTT' rally, but then it's a rally that has claimed many a scalp, gotta been seen to believe "Thrasher's" Terrifying Trek [his driveway] Cheers Baza

Not so funny
My 650 ran funny yesterday and I'll have to look into it.
With pamco it should be rock solidly smooth running. But the symptom is like a set of points arcing. The result is a surging unsteadyness that comes and goes. Makes you feel like the bike might die, but it never did. If I get a chance today I'm going to look into it. 1,100 miles since this motor went in...it's time to take a look under the tank at all aspects of the wires/coil/plugs/ect. I do beleive that the advance rod is rotating freely now under all conditions. I do suspect the pamco as opposed to carbs. (they're rebuilt) But the symptom could be like a bit of water in a float bowl or a torn diaphram. The symptom also has a small possability of being valve seats leaking, but I doubt that's what's up. With the pamco you run a risk of damaging the coil if you try to run with out having the plugs grounded. I have not done that. I do have a new coil from mike's on the shelf if needed or to swap for trouble shooting. Bottom line is going back to points in the longrun. I worry about the pamco stuff although most everyone has had great results... Oh well, more fiddling needed...stand by.

Thanks "Hunter. This is how I bought it. The guy wanted to move on to bob a Sportster and this was in his way. You are correct about TC Bros. hardtail. Having some problems with the proper fit of the axel but I think it has been solved. Also the guy had had the fork lowers shaved and powder coated.
They look great but there are no tabs to mount a front brake. Picked some up at a local bone yard so another problem solved.

Had recently checked levels and maintainece charged the batt. Adjusted the advance rod's fit to spring back nicely. While off on a ride, I thought she was going to die with all the sputtering. Checked all the wires/coil and the pamco. went to electric start it and there wasn't enough power to turn it more than a few revolutions. Check for charge...eghhh, none. (batt at 11.30 volts) Check brushes...woooorn to mark! So THAT's how the pamco ign will run if there's not enough voltage left. ![]() Just got back from a 50 mile run with all as normal again.
