Recommend me a riding jacket

Just upgraded to a SYM HD200 from a Honda Metro and decided that a riding jacket would probably be nice to have so if a crash happens hopefully I won't lose all my skin. Anyways, I live in Colorado so I would prefer something that could be used year round (if I'm a little warm in the summer that's fine) and if possible I'd like to keep the cost around $100 or less. Nothing too flashy either. I'm not sure where to start looking so I'd take either website/store recommendations or specific jackets. Thanks in advance!

The last purchased was meant to be hot weather gear, but it came with 3 layers that can be zipped in, including water proof lining.

It's hard to beat joe rocket jackets , well made and reasonably priced . Also you can usually pick one up on line in a close out sale . IMO these adventure riders are missing the boat by not checking joe rocket stuff out . If you shop around you should be able to get a nice jacket in the $150 range .

Yeah, Joe Rocket has some very price-effective stuff.

At a pinch, even a denim jacket will do OK to lessen the gravel-rash, if your not doing highway speeds. Any of the touring-style stuff about has layers and venting and comfort, etc.

Be sure to check out the age as well as condition. If it has armor on or in it, it can degrade over time. Motorcyclegear.com has them in their close out section for $60 if you don't like the flashy one I bought.

With all the Gear whores that are out there, plenty of closets are constantly being purged. I got a great condition first generation First Gear jacket for $50. Just go to your local Craigslist listings and search on motorcycle jacket.

Sign up for motorcyclegear's email. You will get an email every week or so with all the closeouts listed. You should be able to find a closeout jacket for a lot less than a new one.

I have a Joe Rocket Ballistic that I bought on closeout. I'm not that happy with it, especially compared to my wife's Firstgear jacket. It's very stiff, hot in warm weather, uncomfortable around the neck, and not entirely waterproof. It's not holding up as well as I thought, too - some of the stitching is starting to unravel and I've lost a couple of dome fasteners. The liner can't be worn as a separate jacket, either. The Firstgear seems a lot better designed and built.
