Where has everybody been? I had forgotten all about this thread.

I guess it's time for a hint.

The town to the south has a very small automobile museum.

The town to the north has a combination lunch counter/gift shop/Powell's Books.

Before you leave, how about identifying this pic. You are more likely than many to have been there,

The name of the town to the north sounds a little like a form of protection.

The name of the town to the south is a term someone might use to refer to me.

Between Condon and Fossil; somewhere close to Hwy 19, John Day Hwy.
These highway locations (if I guessed right) are tough for me to recognize,
I slow down sometimes,

but on those North/Central Oregon empty two-lane highways...

can't.
go.
slow.

I can't ride 55

I still haven't been on enough of the gravel roads around there to recognize this spot.
Even though I've spent some time twice this year cruising around there already.
That area keeps calling me back.

Edit: It's not Snipton Canyon Rd, Butte Creek Rd, or Hoover Canyon Rd, Nor Richmond or Seales Rd.
.....unless I blew right past it....
That spot (Church, school, Post Office?) would've prompted me to stop and take a pic, just like you, I think....

I believe the building was a school.

Side note: After riding about 20 miles of gravel out of Fossil, I came upon a "No Trespassing" sign posted by Wilderness Unlimited. The sign was positioned such that it seemed to be claiming the road itself, and threatened arrest for continuing. To be safe, I turned around, but I have my suspicions that is not their road, and they just want to keep the riff raff away. Signs by other property owners along that road were facing in a way that claimed only the land along the road.

The road showed on the map as going through to 19, and it looked like a public road. I have heard that Wilderness Unlimited has a habit of claiming more than they actually own, so I want to check with the Sheriff to see whether the sign is legit.

I think that may have been Buckhorn Lane, then, Or the beginning of Armstrong Canyon Rd.
I went there specifically looking for access to the John Day River, as Armstrong heads right to river's edge.
I saw the same damn sign, paused, revved my motor, went forward,,,,,but stopped and turned around also.
I felt the same way, it didn't look right, but the sign was well posted and it delivered a clear message.

The John Day is a "Wild & Scenic River" through that area and even River navigation is by permit only, I understand.
But still, I musta blew right past that school

River rd, in the Yakima Canyon, on the Yakima river. The bridge looked very familiar to me, but took a while to place it. I've blasted down that road many times and never taken the time to take a photo. A very fun stretch of asphalt that thankfully I have never managed to receive a performance award on.

I thought the road was called "Canyon Rd",... but for sure you got way closer than my stab at MortimerSickles pic.

I knew the suspension bridge would be easy.
Every biker takes that road instead of the Interstate between Yakima & Ellensburg.
50mph is VERY hard to do on that sweet road
