SMT's speedometers replaced under warranty.

Anyone using aftermarket luggage on this bike? I'd love to see some pictures and hear some experiences with givi or others. The wife loves the bike, but it has to work for the two of us!

I had a couple of Pelican 1550s from another bike. I bought the SW Motech racks for the SMT, then fabbed up my own brackets.

For my needs the Pelicans work great. They each hold 32L are are water proof and extremely durable. The mounting brackets I built have locks on them so they are locked to the racks when in used, but still come off quickly when at the hotel or camp site. I also added a bungee net inside each one to keep the contents in the box when I need to open them while still attached to the bike.

This is how I was loaded up for a month long trip last summer. In this setup I am still overpacked, but it was my first major trip. The yellow duffle is waterproof, but it only contains my camping gear (tent, bag, pad) and a few other light items. In total, this was 80 lbs. 30 in each box, 15 in the duffle, 5 in the tankbag. Like I said, I was overpacked.

I'm using a pair of Givi E21 bags with the Givi rack. They're fine for a solo 3-4 day ride, but probably not big enough for 2-up or a longer ride. I'm planning on getting another set of bigger Givi bags as well. I also have the top box mount, but I mostly use that for commuting.

I should say that $15,399 is average dealer pricing, depending on where you live. Most (95% or more) dealers charge freight and set-up fees in addition to the price of the motorcycle (avg $700). These fees are the freight the dealer pays to get the bike from KTM and the time it takes to uncrate, set up and inspect the machine before it is presented to the buyer. I'm aware of only 2 KTM shops in the Southeast who don't charge these fees.

If you are pricing SMTs, make your sales person commit to an 'out the door' price. There are many dealers who won't disclose their fees until the deal is in process.

I'm super stoked about the SMT.. Should see mine show up any day now

I'm getting mine for just under 15k. That's why I really havent looked around for another. The dealer said its normally over 15 when all said and done.

Too expensive to insure? Huh? I had no problems getting insurance through State Farm other than the VIN didn't show up in their system and I had to send them a picture of it.

+1 GMAC Rider charges me about $50/month for full coverage (100/300).

Sorry, I should have said here in Europe.

In the UK this bike is in insurance group 17 of 17, along with the 1000 sportbikes and most of Ducati's big bikes.

I was wondering if KTMs are pricey to fix, and maybe a magnet for thieves.

UK insurance pricing can be whacky, the Yamaha MT-01 was group 16..

I've read a few years ago that they asses risk in some idiotic way.

There was a guy on another forum who went from a naked Bandit 1200
to the one with fairing and it came in a completely different insurance group,
almost 3 times as expensive. Did I mention his new Bandit was the 650?

The explanation? It's a sport bike! The naked one was 'a standard'.

Here in Croatia we got it ass-backwards too.
The insurance premium depends on the bikes engine size only.

It does make sense to charge more for a Ninja 1000 then a Ninja 250..
But when you buy a 1200cc cruiser with a whoppin 60hp, you're not
expecting to pay more for insurance then the Ninja 600 guy.

Not to mention that basic coverage for the 1000cc+ class is $1000/year
in a country where most people don't make over $600/month.
