4400 miles in 4 months.

Best mods? OEM tankbag. V+H riser blocks on X shocks. PR2's and 3's.

Worst mod? Scotty mod (34 to 38 tooth front pulley). I have a high horsepower/not as torque-y exhaust (D&D 2 into 1) and it wouldn't pull 5th even with 87 hp on tap. I need rev's to make power with my setup so all I got for my money was a 4 speed Sportster with an overdrive. Not good.

K&N goes on this week.

Next up. Lower, straighter bars. Then maybe X rotors, steel lines. Then Racetech front. Then Sargent or Corbin seat. ....then..then...lol

Interesting. In the Big Twin world, the 2 into 1's are the torque exhausts, and the 2 into 2 are the higher HP exhausts (ie: they don't generate the torque like a 2 into 1).

Wonder what is different about the sportster's tuning that your D&D 2 into 1 isn't generating the torque you need? Did you retune the computer after adding it?

^Dyno chart from D&D shows what slowoldguy says:

http://www.danddexhaust.com/catalog/2009/07/55131.htm

Stocker pulls from lower revs, and the 2-into-1 has a dip in the lower rev range, but higher up it makes mo' powah.

hard luggage mounts?

The one thing that is seriously stopping me from thinking about this bike is the lack of availabilty for pannier racks. Does anyone know of any racks available to mount some aluminum panniers? Also, a rack to mount a top case, yet still have room for the passenger?

You could buy the factory rear cargo deck, and would have to make your own racks. Incidently, nobody makes racks, and most likely won't, due to the nature of this bike. Hell, it's hard enough to get performance parts besides from the european market.

Have a look at www.XR1200ownersgroup.com -- mostly overseas owners; they've had a chance to work with the bike and the aftermarket a bit more. I lurk there pretty often and if I run across anything I'll update here. I've seen a Givi system on one bike there.

Ventura makes a good system - that's probably what I'll use. Might not be what you're looking for, but worth a look.

My particular bike on the dyno made 87.6 and 76. Don't know if it is making that now or not but I want to find out.

Yup. I am member there, too. Great bunch of owners.

If your passenger has an ass as small as a house cats, then "maybe".

But I think aluminum panniers on this bike would make it ugly enough to never attract a woman anyway.

i got one too

I was looking for a new bike- i have a DRZ supermoto and i figure i can change that to a full bore adventure bike- but i was looking for a fun all arounder with more go and show than the old honda Cb750.
Monster- didn't like the fit, Diavel- great but so expensive- even tried my old GS500E, and a Z1000 (great ride, but not 'timeless' enough.
the triumphs- love them but after riding the thruxton- i was so underwhelmed i went home dejected.
i test rode the XR1200X on a whim- it fit.
it fit perfect for me- the reach to the bars, the motor, the positive shifting, the side stand is goofy, but what a blast!
it handles better than the honda CB- and every bike i test rode. (not the diavel but close IMHO)
it flat out rips in canyons and around town, it is the anti harley- you can chill on it, but it is a great barn burner, and canyon runner-
Just terrific the wieght? it must be dimensional- because it feels nothing close to a GS1200/1150 Bandit 1250 or anything like that.
it really is a timeless looking keeper.
bought it sunday with 26 miles on theODO-
by sunday night when i rolled in I had 223miles. not bad. can't wait to swap pipes and lose some wieght but
what a hoot

Found a new one. Sitting on the showroom floor. Kind of out of the way, as not to disturb the "real" Harley's. Have to wonder if they'd take my Suzuki in trade? Doubt it.
