St Maries Saber
Beautiful day today in the Inland Northwest. Nearly 60 degrees on Mach 25th, so my brother and I took a little afternoon ride from Spokane to St Maries, Idaho where the little public airport has this cool F-100 Super Saber on static display. Except, it's not static - it's a functioning wind indicator. The supporting pillar pivots at its base, allowing the entire display to move with the wind. It took me by surprise as I was trying to frame this shot and this huge plane began to slowly turn.

Ontario OR
The sign said "No Trespassing", but there were old war planes just setting around. Classic attractive nuisance.
F4 A7 F5 Check out the peppermint sick on the nose. Must be Old. Has a split windshield like my 51 Dodge. PapaYolk screwed with this post 05-10-2012 at 06:39 PM |

More info on the F5D, and that tail in particular, not to be confused with the F-5 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Northrop_F-5 |

I just looked at the Ontario, OR municipal airport in Google Earth. Just a couple of hangers west of the planes you shot are an F-111, F-86, P-80, and no less than a Mig-21! Quite the collection just sitting out there in the elements. I'm going to make a point of stopping in there and doing a trespassing of my own!

I flew into Ontario a couple of years ago, and spent an hour there talking to a couple of old fellas restoring airplanes. Hell of a collection, they have the only F-111 in civilian hands, however it was a one they used for testing and never actually flew. The Migs really surprised me too. The things you find in the middle of nowhere.
Flying over that area, I thought what an awesome place to ride a bike.

I wouldn't mind one of each - The Versys looks like a great bike and I've always loved the Catalina

Thanks. We construct steel buildings for a living, one of our good clients is a water bomber pilot, that catilina was called the canso in Canada and they were converted to water tankers for fighting forest fires. He just bought one for his own use. I can't wait to go for a ride in it. That's going to be an experience for sure doing the maneuvers for fighting fires..

Mig 22
F 1-11 These, like the sky lancer around the corner, are all for sale. The F5D is one of only two out there. Neal Armstrong has the other. |
