Maybe a silly question but looking for input.

I have 5000+ miles of slab and easy dirt coming up. Currently I have a 16T up front but I'm thinking about swapping to the 17 for the trip. The only reason I would change is if it will help me eek out better mileage on the highway.

I'm thinking though that my habits regarding acceleration and gear selection will have a bigger impact than up-sizing the front CS.

Any input?

I would think the 17t would make keeping the bike at 65-70 easier. I know since going down to a 16t cruising along at those speeds is harder to maintain without over shooting or going to slow. But then I have a lead wrist.

Serious though lower RPM should result in better MPG.

07 vs 08 vs 09 differences?

hey guys, I'm dead set on getting a super enduro. Just reading the ride reviews makes me grin.

Anyway, are there any differences between the model years? I know 09 only 100 erzberg editions were produced but did it come with anything to make it worth more over an 07?

Thanks!

I don't know if that helps, but my observation is that with stock jetting the 17 gives anemic low and midrange and a 16T is a welcome mod.
With H2W+prefilter and 17T, the low-mid is better than with stock jetting/airfilter and 16T.

So if you are stock with a 16T then you can put a 17T and H2W and still be impressed with the added acceleration.
Expect around 5% better consumption on highway with a 17T than with 16T

I have H2w, prefilter and 2-1. I realize the 17 will change gearing, which is why I'm asking if the mileage improvement would offset the milder feel.

On the highway the feeling of the 17 is better as long as you go over 80-85, so it depends how much time you will spend on the highway and how much off it. At the end of the day it is a 15min job to change the front sprocket, so you could always carry both.
For me the choice of sprocket is not a question of consumption since the difference is not that great. It is a question of what I prefer in terms of feeling. For highway riding I can live with a 16 but I prefer the 17.

Thanks for the input. I anticipate speeds around 75mph or less on the highway. For my riding around home I like the 16. I might toss on the 17 that I got when I bought the bike and see what I get. 10 extra miles per tank isn't a game changer, didn't think it would be.

For the speeds you are talking about, I believe you will hardly see any difference in milleage between the two.
However it is worth checking how the 17 feels. Different strokes for different folks!

Afaik, all SEs are the same mechanically across model years. Some have suggested that KTM made all the SEs ever made in one single batch and they just changed the model year designations.

Any one use 89 octane with no issues? I have been running 93 ethanol free but its difficult and not convenient to obtain. Another local station started selling 89 ethanol free fuel only that is more convenient but don't know if it is high enough octane rating.

I can get E10 high octane anywhere but I prefer the ethanol free fuel
