Air Box with NO SNORKEL - Good/Bad???

Hi guys,
in the past days, i have installed a jetting package on my 950 Adventure.
After many adjustments i had several dificulties on getting the bike running fine. The jets were correct, but the problem was mainly at 7,500 rpm, with the engine having dificulties on responding in a clean way.
It seemed like it had lack of air in the air box, although i have made the possible adjustments on the air jet on the carbs.
I've tried something and it worked very well, i have took out the air box snorkel.
After doing this, no more problems at 7,500 rpm, and the bike has a clean and fantastic response at any rpm.

My question is, with no snorkel, is it good, bad and why?

Should i put back the snorkel and make some holes in the air box cover?

I know that some bikes with no oem exhaust system and new jetting suffer from lack of air and some guys make holes on the air box resolving the problem.
Is this the case?

I think the snorkel's main advantage is in deep water crossings, other than that I think it's there to reduce intake noise for sound requirements. Putting holes in the correct part of the airbox would put you in even bigger trouble for water crossings than running without the snorkel. I'd say if it works better without it and you don't go in really deep water run it without it. The newer "airboxes" people are coming out with like this one http://advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=761703 don't even have an airbox anymore, let alone a snorkel.

I,ve done it a little different. , I to was worried about water coming in, since its a paper air filter. So i just cutted away most of the back side of the snorkel, keeping the curved outside as an guard from both water from front and top. I have also rised the glovbox about 10 mm, allowing cold fresh air in around it. It seems like the motor is fresher, specially in the higer rpms. The noise is better to....

I doubt the rubber cable seperater thing would stop much water getting in if it was submerged.

You can remove the triangular panels off the side of the airbox for more air :)

Dont know what you meen with the rubber cable seperator thing? I kept the curved outside of the air snorkel, as a kind of guard from water spray/splash/dripping (since it always starts pouring rain whenever i,m out ), maybe saving the paper air filter, who i guess dont tolerate much water. It will suck water submerged of course. I think the snorkel is a major restrictor for air flow, specially at higer rpms.

I thought about the triangular sidepanels to, but again this air filter worried me..(that wood really been a poor mans hooligan air filter) Has anyone tried?

Your English is very good.
The rubber part i mean is at the front of the airbox,you will see it when you remove the snorkel.

Pre Filter

Just run a Uni Filter kit and forget about the snorkel, mine works great at any RPM. My 2 cents...

Your english is fine.....surely it cant be any wetter than Glasgow, Its rained every day for the last three weeks.....

Its actually been 6 days without rain the last 30 says!! And the forecast promising sun next week:!
