Every now and again I peel off the grinding stone and get away for a brain clearing kind of day. Last Thursday I rode out to my favorite abandoned and run down "town square" and sat and read for about three hours, had great barbecue, read for another hour and rode home.

Anyone fitted hard luggage to their SV1000n? After going for a good ride this afternoon, I have a hard time imagining something better for quick sport-touring (especially on a tight budget). Rather than replace the bike, I'm thinking about fitting some luggage, a taller seat, Buell pegs, etc. to make the bike a long distance mile muncher!

Had fun last Friday on mine at the new track, The Ridge. Here is a vid from my helmet while I chase my buddy on his naked ZX10, which has a little power on me!?

1-up trim: ![]() 2-up trim: ![]() IMO it makes a great sport-touring platform, with a definite emphasis on sport rather than touring. You might have to throw quite a few parts at it to get it comfortable. I added lower pegs for the pillion, Sargent seat and sheepskin butt pad, Heli bars, MRA vario touring screen.

It's great for sport touring, but yeah, it's pretty uncomfortable. I just got mine barely bearable for more than 70 or so miles with the heli's and buell pegs. The seat is a plank as well, and I plan to re-pad and cover it myself this summer. It also doesn't have a massive range, although not a tiny one either.
All that being said, it's my sport touring bike of choice since I don't plan on getting a new bike any time soon; and I love it. I even got inspired by a day-trip thread out to Alpine, TX that got me planning that 1000 mile run sometime in the fall. (which is why i need to re-upholster the seat).

Check out some of the rides in my signature. I like the SV1000 for ST duty, especially with the bars, cause its great power and highway-ability to get you where you wanna ride, and then you strip off the gear and luggage and you can have some fun riding it, on the more spirited side.

Update
I didn't ever mount hard luggage to the SV1000n, but I did take it sport touring this summer. I did about 1300 miles over a four day period, including a big first day of over 450 miles. A set of soft-luggage (unfortunately scratched the hell out of the tail of the bike) allowed for gear, but for comfort I went custom corbin, buell pegs, grip puppies and tech-spec tankpads. The bike ran like a dream, was all day comfortable and actually ended up being the "comfortable" bike on the trip! Once we got away from society a bit, I was finally able to open her up a bit and saw an indicated 114 on the speedo before thoughts of cold jail cells and/or bike pieces splayed across the freeway got the better of my senses. I'd still like to go with hard luggage for security and to save the finish on the bike, but I think I'll keep this one for a while longer. More smiles per miles than any other "tourer" I've owned yet!

Anyone has a set of yokes / triple trees from a naked SV1000 that they want to sell?
Really need them. |
