Can't believe this one is still there. I rode northeast on Saturday and south today. Should have gone up and got the tag but was never close to it all weekend.

Kinlock is the location of the first teddy bear.

"The teddy bear's story begins in November 1902 when President Theodore Roosevelt was hunting in Mississippi. After an unsuccessful day, the hunting party brought a small bear cub to the camp for the president to shoot. He refused because the animal did not have a chance to defend itself."

"Clifford K. Berryman, cartoonist for The Washington Post at the time, sketched the incident and captured the public's imagination as well as that of American toymakers. Soon the country was flooded with teddy bears."

"The original teddy bear, from 1903, was given to the Smithsonian by Teddy Roosevelt's grandson, Kermit. Today that bear is in the collections of our National Museum of American History."

Theodore Roosevelt: October 27, 1858 -- January 6, 1919

"The President is merely the most important among a large number of public servants. He should be supported or opposed exactly to the degree which is warranted by his good conduct or bad conduct, his efficiency or inefficiency in rendering loyal, able, and disinterested service to the Nation as a whole. Therefore it is absolutely necessary that there should be full liberty to tell the truth about his acts, and this means that it is exactly necessary to blame him when he does wrong as to praise him when he does right. Any other attitude in an American citizen is both base and servile. To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public. Nothing but the truth should be spoken about him or any one else. But it is even more important to tell the truth, pleasant or unpleasant, about him than about any one else."

New Tag

I don't figure this one will stay long as it is within easy striking distance of a very active participant in this game! A clue for those that don't recognize this site: if you drop your silverware this may happen.

Yeah, I have wanted to use that site as a tag spot for several years and now seemed appropriate.

I have always thought it was a bear but on close inspection it did look like a beaver. I think it is supposed to be a Teddy Roosevelt looking bear.
