Has anyone else been tempted to attend this event at the ORS stomping grounds in Brecon Beacons?

BMW Off Road Skills/Bike Magazine "Reclaim Our Trails"

I did the Level 1 training there last October and was hoping I might sometime be able to come back with a proper bike. So I'm seriously thinking about bringing the old 640 Adv out for the day.

I'm paying £180 for TWO DAYS of training this weekend with the BBRC - http://bigbikerallychallenge.co.uk/c...rally-training - on a comparable facility (Sweet Lamb) with a pretty good instructor:trainee ratio.

You need training to ride a bike off tarmac...... hmmmm, that must be where I went wrong!

And the 'reclaim the trails' name is a bit ironic, and I hope some of the South Wales TRF lads can tune this for me, but didn't the Walter's Mining Co have a plan to force through the closure of a section of the Sarn Helen Byway (a public road) that runs through the area where the BMW ORS leases?
Walter's Mining want the closure to enable them to use the site solely as a private off road motorsports centre......

Turns out you guys were right. Just got a call from ORS. The event has been cancelled due to lack of interest.

does seem quite steep! i have asked them what is actually included, if its just 5 x 25 min blocks i dont think many will turn up for that price

Really good - it's the second one I've been on, and both times my riding's taken a massive step forward.

I got the impression there is unlkely to be a "next one" at the ORS site. I'd signed up out of frustration with the whole off-road riding scene in the UK. But, as others have noted, there are a lot of similar alternatives out there, some of which may be a better deal in terms of money/time.

Although I am not all that interested in the competitive angle, I've decided to join in the BBRC series next season.

A few weeks back, there was an "adventure" article in one of the major UK bike magazines. They took a couple of GS-style bikes up North. I think they rode about 300 miles out to nowhere in order to ride a 12 mile stretch of groomed gravel forest service road. I mean WTF is that about? Why would anyone even bother? I have the new issue of 'Advertisement Bike Rider' open in front of me now. They've got a new section on "green laning," which I thought was promising, especially since they included maps. Maybe I could find a legal place to ride without having to go to the TRF boyscout meetings (I'm a full dues-paying member, okay, so relax. But I go to enough meetings at work already). The lengths of the trails they describe are genuinely depressing. Peak District: 2 miles, Wales: 2.73 miles. It would take me half a day to get to either of these places. And for what?

So it's off to the races instead.
