My wife is from the Cable / Drummond area and it looks like the trail comes pretty close their property near Lake Owen. Might be a nice ride for us when we visit this summer.

She's fairly new on a 650GS and I'm on a 1200GSA. Any tips on which sections we should bypass on bigger bikes and a newish rider?

Thanks!

Well Rob, I wouldn't recommend the NWAT tracks in that area for those bikes or for a new rider. They get kind of sandy and rugged.

But, my friend rokklym has a road ride that passes through that area that will easily handle those bikes. Since that part of his track is in the national forest and heads to the lake it will be pretty scenic. It eventually leads up to Lake Superior. I think most of the roads on his track up around there will be good gravel. Take a look for yourself as you may enjoy taking a ride on it! Hope this helps.

Red track is NWAT for smaller dual sports that can run rugged trails and sand in the area.
Green track is my friends's adventure bike track that you might enjoy instead.

I mentioned that we were slated for storms on this day. The forecast was that storms were to begin about midnight and continue through the next day with some storms being severe. We braced for it, stashed the bikes under cover overnight, and prepared our riding clothes and gear for a wet ride. We went to sleep with storms due to hit within an hour or so. It never happened. The last day was the best weather day with temps in the 70s. Previously we had a day with some intermittent rain with temps in the 60s and a couple of hot days with temps in the 80s.

Forecast storm day.

Still heading south.

The sign lacks a motorcycle sticker but the MVUM says that path is open to wheels 50" wide or less. I'll talk to the USFS to see about putting a bike sticker on the sign to prevent confusion.

Could have used a little of that forecast rain I guess.

So when the situation turned to one of 36 women riding ATVs coming over the hill and into mutual view... ...my face was as pink as their shirts. Uh yeah, lesson learned.

Heading back to the start. Some nice riding through the forest in this area.

Back to where we parked near the start.

As I mentioned, I set this up so that the final day would be shorter to allow for some travel time to get home. Faster moving average today as well.

All in all a very fun ride with a great group to ride with.

I'm already anxious to do ride it all again.

Hope a few others get a chance to enjoy it as well.

Thanks for riding along!

GPS track can be downloaded here.

I would have thought the two of you would have hit that side by side.
Although, Ben probably couldn't see real well with the leaf in his face.

They are a lot of fun. It occurred to me that I didn't show a lot of pix of the not so fun parts (things like a extensive stretch of whooped out sand). All in all it is a good time.

Miles of fun!

Excellent job as usual.

This "Cannonshot" guy deserves a medal of some sort for all of the exceptionally hard work he does putting together these awesome routes.
