Direct Routing REALLY fixed

Just upgraded to 4.10 with Webupdater and I find Garmin really have fixed Direct Routing this time. They claimed V3.99 Beta fixed it but it did not and the issue I had (50+ waypoints and Activity set to Prompted) was repeatably wrong and I advised the Beta Team. I got no acknowledging e-mail from them but 4.10 works the way it should.

To all,

Novice question about updates.

Is,

Webupdater the official release ? and,

Beta the unofficial and testing release ?

I had a Route Planner bug that was most likely Beta induced but I didn't follow my own advice when I updated to v4.10. I didn't:
  1. Set the Profile to Recreation
  2. Shutdown the Montana and and do a Master Reset. Upon reboot and before selecting the Language option, Power Off.
  3. Plug unit into computer and using WebUpdater, install latest release.
  4. Power On unit and allow new software to install.
  5. Once unit is booted up and language options selected you can set the Profile to whatevery you normally use.

Not doing the above caused me about four hours worth of re-installing, Master Reseting and removing my Custom Profiles ( I still haven't figured out why they should have any effect).

So, be warned.

Cheers,

I really haven't had much time to focus on the wisdom thread. Ask nice and maybe Emmbeedee will put it there.

Cheers,
Pretty please with pink flowers and sugar on top

i.e. with flowers on her spirally curling locks as she guides the GPS to the correct cafe that she works at where she is putting a light sprinkle of sugar on your favorite hot beverage

or something like that

What is the "Route Planning Bug"?

Huh? Her? She? Yikes, you got that wrong.

But Dan's info would be a great addition. I've been hesitant to put anything I hadn't written on the Wisdom and FAQ thread but if I get permission, and people think it belongs, then I have no problem adding it.

I tried updating to 4.10 yesterday...went thru the web udater...it found my unit and offered the new download and an optional file for voice and text.
Clicked on the download and it ran less than 2 seconds, announced it was done, and to restart the GPS.
On restart, it went straight to the opening screen with no hint that it had installed anything.
Went to setup/about and it shows Beta 4.03
I found the files that were just installed by looking for the current date. The XML still shows the 4.03 Beta with no mention of 4.10
If I try to reinstall 4.10 thru the web updater
it now says I already have the latest software.
I tried downloading Beta 4.04 and another attempt at the web updater...no luck
I may have to call Garmin on this one....

Cheers,

Uh Oh, I didn't either.....what was the Route Planner bug?
And was the sequence you used after the first install exactly the same as what you said above? Nothing in there about removing custom profiles.

The problem I encountered after loading v4.04 was that if the Route Planner was empty and you crated a new Route, there was a missing sequence in the workflow and the Route was not saved - even if you started Navigating the new Route. A few other folks over on the Wiki tried to duplicate this but without success. It was at that point, I backtracked and figured I didn't get a clean update during one of the Beta installs do to my lack of "install discipline".

On a similar but completely different topic. . .

Since the release of v3.90 I have noticed a condition with Custom Profiles and I have yet to identify the root cause. I have sent several of my Custom Profiles to Garmin but the issues still persists with v4.10. In short, even though my Profile sets Routing Activity to Automotive the Montana will only calculate a Direct Route. I first have to change to a "factory" Activity that does Along-road routing and then calculate a route with that Profile before I can switch back to my Profile and get Automotive Activity to work. Once this is done, I can switch between Routing Activities with various profiles and no problems. I have deleted (removed) Custom Profiles and started over using the Automotive factory Profile each time with the same results - eventually, but not immediately.

How's that for a Holiday Conundrum

Cheers,

North American

Right now I don't need tracks just want to have the North American roads loaded in a Montana. I see all these updates and beta stuff is it all just for tracks or will need to be downloading a bunch of updates to just use the North American roads, also? It would be nice to have one GPS that will do everything like the Montana, but kind of wonder after reading all the little problems that everyone keeps having. I would like to get used to it this summer, before using all the off road features this fall.
