At night they had drunken pit bike racing for hours, they were out till 3 in the morning, not what i wanted to do the night before a race. and of course there were fights because thats what 20 year old drunks do...
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() On Saturday night the police came and stopped the band from playing because they did not have the proper permits so a fireworks war started with rockets being launched in every direction but straight up and then more pit bike racing and then more fights because thats what 20 yr old drunk guys do. It was quite the expierence but probably wouldn't do it again, I think I got 5 hrs sleep between the 2 nights . ride report to come |

Pit pic with the new "penthouse" sleeping quarters,
![]() Moto one was the "keeping it real" 2 stroke only class which was sold out (they limit each class to 40 riders and this was the only full gate of the day) and let me tell you that 40 bikes heading into the first corner is F'tup! There was people from 16 to 60 in the class so a wide range of speed and ability and it showed with pile ups in the first, second and third corners! I rode my 89 cr 125 in the first moto and had a great time on it and finished 17th or so which I was happy about, second moto of the class I rode my yz as the sand just ruins a bike and I felt bad for the old girl. second moto i finished 18th for a 16th overall? Not bad for a top 20 finish racing an old bike and body..... Moto 2 was "Old and decrepit" +45 and had 27 entries, same thing as the other race I rode my 89 in the first moto and YZ in the second. I had richened up the jetting on the YZ so I didn't blow it up and made it too rich and the bike was breaking up all over the track but still managed a 8-9 for a 8th overall which again I was content with. When changing the jetting I broke a cardinal rule of engine tuning, I changed more than one thing at a time. 125's will blow up at a track like southwick because you have to hold it wide open for extended times and lack of fuel is lack of lubrication which means siezure, it has happened to me before there and on my KTM I would go up 3 sizes on the main jet and run pure 110 leaded race gas so it' didn't blow up. The KTM was very sensitive to jetting and I constantly had to deal with it. The Yamaha jetting has been perfect since I went up one size on the main and ran great no matter what the weather. I pulled the plug before the race and it was a perfect light tan which I thought would be to lean in the sand so I turned in the air screw a half turn. later I thought why not drop the needle clip one to really richen it up? I also chose to run pure race gas instead of the 50/50 mix I usually run. Well the bike ran like crap, I couldn't believe how bad it ran actually so Sunday morning I pulled the carb and reset the clip and returned the air screw to its previous position. The YZ ran PERFECT! I couldn't believe that one clip position and a quarter turn of the air screw could make that much difference but I now know that it is about as rich as you can make it. We'll be back at Southwick in three weeks for an ACR race, can't wait! |

That would be the Miss's, just not sure who the skinny kid is next to her?
Thanks Jason! The Kenworth was our cowboy Cadillac Limo that we left the church in, even had a customized bug shield on it... |
