Tucson

Last time I was here was in April, 2008. I rode my Tiger 1050 out here along a different route. I might go home that way later this week. Or, I might take the long way home. Have to see how it goes.

I rolled into the Sonoran Desert around 4 pm yesterday.

I arrived via West Deuce Of Clubs, AKA highway 77. The ride from Show Low to Globe is absolutely outstanding! The Salt River Canyon section is exceptional. Even if you have to bend a few rules to ride a Blackbird appropriately...

This was the kind of ride I had been waiting for. Sport touring at its finest. Sorry, no pics. Had to much fun riding to stop.

Dad and I talked old times for several hours last night and we made plans to get up early for a motorcycle ride today. We both over slept. Rather than ride the bikes in holiday traffic on the only road to ride sport bikes on in the Tucson area, we went for a cruise in his 2 seater. What a fun little car!

Along the way, we passed the drag strip and saw lap times posted on the boards. Being the curious speed freaks we are we went in for a look. A local Corvette club had rented the track for the day. Those cars didn't suck.

I can't think of a better way to spend Memorial Day. Great to see you again dad. Can't wait to ride tomorrow...

Golden Hour

After a nice day driving the S2000 around the desert I went for a little evening walk.

It was just perfect out. Cooling down, golden light that is so different from the quality of light in Colorado. I happened across a sight that forced me to pause and take in what was around me.

I lived in Tucson when I was around her age. Would've loved to meet her then. I did meet her last night along with her brother and sister. Good folks that have a little horse ranch.

This black and white horse is for sale if you're interested.

Those kids were real nice to chat with. Nice setup.

Nice sunset too.

At long last

Before this morning, I had not been for a motorcycle ride with my dad since 2006. That's when he moved from Colorado back to Arizona. Great morning!

Squeeze My Lemmon

We hit the base of Mt. Lemmon at about 6:45 am today.

The last time I rode my motorcycle on this road would have been around 1996/ '97. I came out to visit with my first '93 Ducati 900SS in the back of my Ford.

(This is my 2nd '93 900SS)

I crashed that bike on Mt. Lemmon during that visit. I hit a patch of ice, lost the front wheel, low sided, the bike hit a guard rail and the frame was bent. Totaled. That was a long time ago. I've learned a lot about riding since then and applied most of what I've learned trying to keep up with the old man this morning!

Dad's got skills. Couldn't catch up heading up the hill...

We swapped bikes on the way down. Both enjoyed the change and appreciated each other's ride. I've always loved his Ninja.

Windy.

When Deano says it was windy he's understating it a bit. 44mph winds on Saturday. I passed a lot of bikes as I drove in to Cortez with my family. Although I've gotten used to riding in wind, Saturday looked dangerous as hell. Glad to hear you made it through the day safely. I can't wait to get out there on two wheels in a couple weeks.

Hey Dan, thanks for asking.

Moyle likes to customize his bikes. The 'Ja has worn the street fighter clothes before. Ever since he put the LSL handlebars kit on it which allowed him to get back on the Ninja after not riding it for a couple of years.

He had all the bodywork on it up until last week.

He was very quickly riding Mt. Lemmon early in the morning when he suddenly felt a big impact on the left side. Lucky to not crash from it he turned around to see what he hit. Nothing there but he saw a small herd of deer down the hill. Upon inspection back at home he found hair and blood stuck in the plastic. Some critter had a serious headache that morning and now his beloved Ninja is naked once again...

It was crazy windy that day. I agree, dangerous. That's why I pulled off the road in Dove Creek and enjoyed a greasy green chili burger at Deb's Diner for far longer than I wanted to...

That said, riding those parts without the wind would be heavenly.
