I just use a Garmin Nuvi and use the car suction mount on the windshield. Simple.

I mounted my Zumo 220 using the OEM BMW GPS mount. I bought the adapter plug from BMW and wired the Zumo harness to the under-beak Canbus plug.

I have a Nuvi 2450 and use the supplied suction cup. Works good. It does not fall off. You will have to redo the suction every few days.. I wrap the cord around the suction cup base in case it does fall off it will just hang - only happens if I go for a few weeks with reattaching. It has never fallen off when I was out on some rough off road areas..

RAM mount on a GSA, but the TT mount may be more secure. . ..

I used the lockable TT mount and their cable connected to the socket under the oil cooler with my Garmin CSX60. Works really well.

I use the short Multi-Pod From Wonderlick. Clean. It works real nice & gives alot of options for where to nest your GPS in the dashboard. Hides the wires much better than alot of the options Ive seen as well. Im surprised nobody else has mentioned it.

mount and location...

I would get the Touratech locking mount...just because it locks. It took me a while to forgive them for what they charge for it, but it's solid and it's very nice to not have to take the unit off the bike when I leave the bike for a bit, well worth the money in my opinion.

As for location, I'm not a handlebar GPS guy at all...didn't want it moving around and it positions it too far from where I'm normally looking...down the road. I mounted mine on the upper windshield bar...in the center. Doesn't block my view at all (6'3") and I've been happy with it there on a GSA for years now.

Oh, I have a 550.

My 550 came with a ram mount in the box. Has a weak lock incorporated in it, but its good enough for my use. I mounted it on the left side handlebar, right next to the clutch resevoir. I like being able to use it, while keeping my hand near the bar end. I cable my helmet speakers into it, and use it for music, and to let me know of a call comes in.

I have my Zumo 665 mounted to my tank bag:

The bag is an electrified version of the Bags Connection "City" type sold by Twisted Throttle, along with the GPS holder gadget that snaps on to the front of the bag:

I have the mount, gps plug, and locking mechanism from backordertech.com for a 665 not a 550, but I'm sure they have stuff for 550s.

I like it well enough. Seems to be effective and secure after threadlocking, but as with anything, if someone wants it, they can take it.
