My new name.. snake stompper .. 3 ft rattler on the steps

Well, it is AZ and I guess we invaded their property.
My 13 month old went out on the patio too a play and there
he was a 3 ft rattler with rattle up and head spread.

Grabbed the kid, told the wife, went out to garage and got a long handle shovel
Two solid blows to the head. Threw over the fence ..it will be someone's dinner tonight.

This morning I sat down with the seller of the sink and tables. He wanted
800 for all and we compromised for $550 for a 8ft table with two draws, 6 ft table and a 4ft (24" inch wide table going next to the sink) and the stainless steel sink. Not a bad deal a fair deal.

The walls are really going up fast. Had a dust inspector today and she wanted my watering log (to keep the dust down) so I had to create one this evening and mailed it off to her.

Pictures from the morning and end of the day.

Morning pics

This morning we had visitors to the site. The creators of Omni block was using the project to demostrating the the use of inserts and how easy it was to build.

Another 3 feet has gone up since Monday.

Keep an eye on the cactus as it will disappear soon.

Rebar inserted to give strength to the ledger. The blocks were notched and the re-bar will lay on top with gout poured in.

Watch this cactus .. it will be gone from sight by Friday.

Afternoon.. next level finished

Another inspection in the morning. Gout in the afternoon. We are going to need another 1/2 truck load of blocks. This thing is going to be big.

The yard needs a good cleaning after the masons are gone. I went out and got the water timer since the Dust Nazi will return to check.

Front door is finished

View from the lower garage facing east (nice windows letting in lots of natural light)

Side entry to the upstairs...

Lots of steel lentals for windows and I-beams.

I've been following your posts with great interest. It looks like you have a REALLY nice Man Cave shaping up. But, for those of us in the Northern Climes, can you please explain the Dust (Nazi) Inspector?

EPA required AZ to come up with a plan for air polution. The dust in AZ is full of spores (look up valley fever) and to keep the dust and air bourne spores some what controlled .. all projects distrubing 5000 sf of dirt has to have a dirt control plan. Mine is to water twice a day for 30 mins. I have hoses and sprinkler set on two 30 foot radius covering the road path. At the end of the driveway I have 4 tons of 1/2 gravel to capture loose soil before it hit the street.

Some larger projects would want a water truck watering all day. I have produced very little dust since we had a good amount of clay in the soil.

They issue a waring to the mason contractor for not using water on the cinder blocks while cutting them (good grief ) so we ran an additional hose to the block cutter today.
The job of the inspector is to create hell for the builder but it's a job that really keeps the dust down especially during the summer months.

WELCOME TO MARICOPA BUILDING.

Beauty of early morning

Just some pics from early morning in AZ

I love the shadows of the day and mixture of materials (metal, wood, block and sand) I take pictures as a hobby and
the building of a structure has great beauty.

Two guys stacking block, back breaking work they are exact on their counts to make the task easier on the stackers.

The stacks against a blue sky

Rob the electrician replacing that burnt out buse. No power for a few hours.

Life as GC

The gout was order and I ask Gordon if he had enough ( he order 3 yds)
I said I think you are a 1/2 off. Well .. he was .. there were lots of voids in the cinder block that needed to be filled. 2nd truck showed up an hour later. Pushed the inspection until Thurs. Day behind.

This afternoon I was just taking pics. Enjoy

I will have to ride out from San Francisco for the airhead tech day in October; hopefully an airhead is not a requirement to attend!
