Thanks.
I have a gsg 1911, and it's an absolute hoot. Shoots where I want it to pretty much, cheap, hasn't exploded yet, ran through whatever I tossed at it so far.

This one in particular.

It is some kind of alloy...but folks lets remember here the thing is a 22...it does not need more to cope with recoil.

I have had mine for about a year now I guess, and it has god knows how many rounds in it. The only thing I have had to replace is this little rubber washer thingy....and it gets shot more and cleaned less then my 10/22. I have not seen any wear into the metal on mine and is still shooting straight last time I shot it about 3 months ago. I would say if you want a 1911 style 22 this is the way to go.

I was also thinking that the colt 1911 was a tad smaller then the real deal....but I could be thinking of the browning...can't seem to keep anything straight anymore.

The GSG is zinc I believe the frame anyway, slide is aluminum I think. You wouldn't wanna hammer nails with it, or stick a .45 top in it...

I figure why not post up a pic of the GSG and my R1 side by side...they could be kissin cousins

Onr does look a little bigger so I set one on top of the other....I guess kissin cousins was the right term

I like two separate guns personally.

The frame is aluminum, the slide appears to be cast but I can check mine to see if it is aluminum as well. All the uppers are aluminum. I have about 1000 rounds thru mine and no problems at all except for when I personally broke the ambi safety thru stupidity. They replaced it free even though I did it though!

Here's mine, I love it and carry it round my ranch for pests and to scare off Coyotes or whack them if they get within 50m. All I shoot is Rem bulk from wally or carry Zappers in it and both shoot very well. I was able to chase a golf ball round the ground with it out to about 25m.

metal wear or fiinsh wear? Mine started to wear finish wise in a week because I carry it in a plastic (kydex) holster. But the metal is fine after a year almost or ownership.

I like the two guns idea. I will soon buy a 1911 .45 and my routine will be to shoot 100 rounds through the .22 and then 50 rounds through the .45 each time out. That is what my wife and I do with our GSG .22s and our Ruger Bisley .45LC. And then we shoot our .308s and 10/22s. And then we shoot our 45/70. No, just kidding a little, but not much.
By the way, there are lots of way to improve the GSG .22s. Here is a web sight, for example, that has some good stuff. I have replaced my action rod and barrel tip adapter. And I am going to make my own magazine loader assist for my wife, for whom I now tape the end of her thumb to accommodate:

That's the Browning you're thinking of. I believe it's 85% the size of the original.

The GSG and Sig (also a GSG) are exactly the same size as a full size government 1911. They are lighter since the frame is alloy as is the slide, but generally they are an clone to a point. The GSG has a fixed barrel and different extractor and firing pin but the frame components ala ignition set, and springs are all the same and in the same place and even interchangeable.

If all you want is an affordable double stack 1911 in .45acp that is full size, RIA makes one now.

Metal wear on the inside of the gun after 2500 rnds. Still functioned ok but I was done with it. If I ever get another 22 1911 which I probably wont I'd put a Marvel upper on a STI frame. I'll probably just put the money towards ammo for the Brown.
