What does anyone know about the "new" 2012 Suzuki V-Strom 1000 Adventure? I've read it doesn't have much in the way of spec changes from earlier models, but I can't find HP ratings stated anywhere. On a pipe site, I saw a dino that showed 91HP for stock, that sound about right? Weight shows 555 or so... And the seat looks comfy with fairly low pegs...

I know it's going against my "no Japanese" clause, but as I said, I was a Honda and Suzuki man in my past, so I could potentially live with it.

If it is just over 500 pounds, has close to 100 on the rear wheel, and the pillion likes it, may be too good to pass up at under $12k with luggage...

If the Vstrom wasn't so ugly I would consider it. But talk about a bike with zero passion and all utility, your taste in motos is getting tougher and tougher to figure out! I rode one of those amazing multistrada 1200s and man oh man what a sweet piece of expensive machinery. The snorkel/beak left me with mixed feelings in the looks department. If I had 10 grand or more to spend the Tiger 800XC is just an amazing bike. Beautiful aesthetics, and when changing between knobbies and street tires you truly have 2 different bikes. Just check out The Adventures of Tyson and Hobbes in the day trippin forum for proof. I can't recall if you considered the Ducati ST4S or not and why?

I agree the V-Strom doesn't have much excitement to it. It's really just straight utility, like a basic SUV.

I still need to take a seat with the pillion on the Multi. I too don't like that duck beak. For the cost, the difference between it and the Triumph Explorer isn't really enough to warrant the cost delta I don't think.

If I was going to go with the Triumph, I'd likely stick to the new big Explorer, as that 1200 has the juice to move me, the pillion and our junk much better than 800.

Like most 4x4 vehicles on the road today, my "adventure bike" will likely never see anything more than a dirt road, so no knobbies needed for me.

I don't see the ST4S on the list of Ducs in the USA; do you mean the Street Fighter?

Aha. I wish they were still making it, and bringing it to the USA; sounds like a great bike, and would likely be a very top contender in my quest.

Alas, I am looking for a new bike, not used, so it's out, unfortunately. I was aware of the old Duc ST's, hasn't seen this S model though, thanks for bringing it to my attention, it really is too bad they aren't making it anymore...

Why the hangup on new? I couldn't stand the sting of the depreciation.

I forget where you are on the Sprint GT, have you sat on it? Seems to me like it is the best fit for what you're asking. I might end up with an ST in my garage by the end of summer, an 05 or newer. That underseat exhaust and those headlights get me all hot and bothered

Yeah, sat on one last year. Really nice. Still deciding now between it and the Tiger Explorer really.

This will still likely be a next summer purchase for us, so we still have time.

Rather than trying to imagine impossible compromises, have you thought of actually having more than one more specialised bike? One for track days maybe. One for actual/real touring. One for posing on a breakfast run etc.

Can't say, I personally, can see much of your Aston Martin Rapide in your little 675 Daytona, a Sprint GT or the Tiger Explorer but love is blind I guess

I'd still say a k1200r or even the 1600 if you could swing it would be awesome.

If you think a VFR has no soul, I'd be willing to bet that most of the bikes you're looking at don't either. that V4 is a sweet sound that is very rare...

You want sport touring, but with that comes the wonderful world of really tall, top heavy bikes.

Jap's have this down, especially for shorter riders, but all them are out of the question. I mean, I get it, but my zx-10 is not exactly short on character.

I have two bikes now, one for comfort and one for speed. I have the v65 for long trips and the zx-10 for shorter ones. Ironically, the GF likes the ZX-10 a whole hell of a lot better.

neither one is a slouch and both have more than 100hp.

For those who earlier in this thread thought that bikes can't have soul; I guess Cycle World disagrees:

I never claim BMW is any better than HD.

BMW. Great bikes, expensive, soulless.

Harley. Great bikes, expensive, character.

btw, sounds like you may have a poop fetish
