Nice battle between the 73 Corvette and the Ferrari.

I was sad to hear that the Deltawing car got knocked out. Maybe they'll get another chance to race at the Petit LeMans later in the year.

As for the various wrecks and drivers involved, there has always been a large disparity in talent among the participants. Just the same as with vehicle potential. Such a mix of variables in this type of event more often than not leads to disaster for some. Throw in some crazy weather and anything is liable to happen.

Deltawing

I was hopeing to see more coverage on the vehicle, but alas, it got knocked out. I am surprised there was very little footage on such a new, radical participant vehicle. Hope it gets rebuilt and enters more races this season.

Watching the replays at full speed, I think this was Davidson's fault. Davidson, in the prototype, wasn't even on the brakes yet, but the GT car was already on the brakes and turning in (the difference between all that down force and not). Davidson seemed impatient: watching hundreds of corners during this race, the prototypes know to pull in behind the GT cars and not push it.

I was bummed to see them hip checked into the wall, and the driver was heroic trying to get the car running again. A real bummer. No more Toyota hybrids or the Nissan delta wing. Definitely not the way I wanted to see the race go.

Then again, toyota should be back next year, and Porsche is entering P1 in 2014. Mazda is bringing diesels to P2 in 2013, too. This is one of the best forms of motorsports!

Well, that's Davidson's rep.
Viewing different vids of the incident and seeing that Davidson never flashed his lights as he approached,
maybe the Ferrari driver's conduct wasn't inexcusable after all, especially in light of your comment about
the braking situation for the GT car. Be interesting to hear Davidson's side of the story and if FIA do any
disciplinary action.

Glad to see he's OK, that was a scary crash.

And what a race! Bummer about Corvette in the GTE-Pro, but Audi was mighty impressive (did you see two cars in the pits getting new front ends at the same time? Impressive). And how about Starworks with their HPD? First in LMP2, that was a great result. And then the Labre guys winning GTE-Am and beating the factory Corvettes.

I didn't watch the end of the race but, according to Corvette Racing web site, they finished 5th and 6th.

I wish it could be like it was 5 years ago when they were running in GT3 class and kicking ass. Of course all the other teams pulled out because they weren't winning.

Hey, Corvette won GTE Pro last year, and that car won GTE Am this year. Not too bad, really. I like the new GTE configuration, Aston, Porsche, Ferrari and Corvette all going head to head. Great stuff. This year sucked for the GTE Pro Corvette team, but thems the breaks.

The C7 should be out in the next year or two.
I wonder if we'll see a diesel/hybrid Corvette at Le Mans.

That's racing as they say.

I think they'll be using the faithful pushrod V8. Maybe a turbo dieselis in store for the new prototype Corvettes.

OT a bit, but take a read when you get a chance about Briggs Cunningham running a couple of Cadillacs at LeMans back in the '50s and finishing respectably. I met the guy a few times and he was quite a character.

What a difference 5 years can make. That 1950 Cadi was a beast! “Le Monstre”
