Rugged one? Waterproof? Size? Which? Picture?

Then I have to go digital to.

But i want my own custom symbols on it.
This is way off-topic for the original post, so I started this thread.

First, the pictures:

The mount:

rubber isolated in an attempt to reduce vibration... didn't work that well.

The sun shield:

Works well. The eventual plan is to wire the above adaptor in permanently

Here's the tablet in the mount:

The above shows an earlier version of the custom maps I've come up with.

I wrote a review the tablet here so I won't bother repeating it:

I also made a few comments, okay, whining complaints about using a table here:

But, to answer your questions, I'm using a cheap ($115) Chinese 5" Android 2.2 tablet that has a decent gps chip in it. Not rugged, not waterproof, but not expensive either. Glare was a big problem until I came up with the idea of using high-contrast custom maps, and that works surprisingly well. Overall, I'm very please with the results.

Someday, hopefully soon, I'll do a write-up on making custom maps for it. But, for now, the short answer is OSM data - Osmosis to grab a section - JOSM to make custom layers - Maperitive with a custom ruleset to render everything down to tiles - MOBAC to convert the tiles to Orux maps - and Orux on the tablet to actually use them. It was a steep learning curve, but after getting it figured out it's become fairly easy to work through the process.

As a side note, if you're making paper maps with custom info on it, you might want to look at Maperitive. It's designed for that, more so than making custom tiles.
