Hello from the UK

Doug

I've been following your antics for some time. I enjoy reading it as much as I did when RIP used to write for Easyriders. Having just returned from 7 days riding 2,700 miles around Europe on a 69 Norton accompanying some 30's sidevalves your effort riding your Indian is impressive indeed.

Let us know if you're intending to visit UK. Keep the Indian stuff coming.

Thanks for providing some great stuff for us Indian owners in the UK.

I hope to put together some pics and a ride report of our trips when I get someone who can assist with posting our pics, until then I'll enjoy reading your stuff.

Rob

Doug

Dude, you should write for Easyriders. They would eat this stuff up.

The Indian is looking good. Doug, what is the difference between this and the FXRT? Always thought it would be a nice alternative to the RK I used to own. Lighter to pick up anyway.

FXRT is low rider rubber mounted touring
FXRD is the deluxe model.
I have to have everything deluxe.

its just how I roll.

(I think the difference is some extra gauges, fancy stickers & some other doodads)

I got to Bulgaria & opened the garage. everything dusty, cobwebs, etc.
I really needed to wash the shovel, as it still has iraqi dirt on it.

I brought a new regulator, ignition switch & coil. I'll have it ship shape in no time

I'd been wanting an early model Balkan for a few years. this is a 250cc bulgarian bike. in 56-57, they made it as a direct copy of a DKW. When they took it to a euro bike show, the DKW folks had a fit, as they didnt have a license to copy it. So, they quit making it, & got the rights from Jawa to use their design, which they did for the next 20 years or so.
Finding a model 1 is tough, as they are pretty rare, but my friends found me one this past winter. Its not in the best shape, but its mostly all there.
Someone painted it some godawful green/purple flipflop color.

I really liked the custom speedometer. someone cut the center out & mounted a bike speedo in it

I also like the custom seat bolts.

my crate will be here next week, in it is a sportster motor to put in this, the worlds first harley-dneprson

and I put a 'Watch for Motorcycles' sticker on the back of a local cop car

Hey there Doug. I am sure looking forward to that build. I'd say 'unusual' build, but somehow that doesn't seem necessary, or adequate.

Thanks for the info Doug, now I know what to look for. Someone in my area collects these and then sells them for like $12K

Now that gives the German term "Balkan Disco" (basically meaning a place, where youngster from the ex-Yugoslawian hang out, also denoting a certain style of music) a completely new meaning...

On a more serious note, do you have some specs on that engine, I perhaps know one or two DKW/Bantam riders, who would be highly interested!

Cheers,
Greg
