Ordering Windows..Which Kind?

Aluminum windows vs vinyl vs fiberglass vs wood?
My feeling is to go with Alum. All the salesmen here are
pushing vinyl

aluminum for sure, secondly wood, in your environment UV rays and heat will degrade plastics in the long run

The aluminum ones tend to sweat more than the vinyl. May not be an issue in your dry climate.

Typically the vinyl frames tend to have better R value. That being said, I'm leery of the cheap ones and how long they will last.

I replaced the windows in my house with vinyl and wish I hadn't. If I ever have the money I would go back to wood with a factory exterior coating.

flooring.. stair landing and walls

We added two window from the upstairs to look down into the garage.
Just a nice way to bring openness to the project.

The upstairs will be finished this afternoon. The landing has been built.
So, noon Friday the crane will be here to hoist the beam and roof trusses.

Forms fro the eaves on the second level

Dividing wall from the 2nd floor to the garage. We added the two windows.

Hand cut treads 7 3/4 rise 12 deep.

Landing, we added a closet to be built under the steps for storage (gun safe)

this little space under the stairway will be the safe secret hideaway for the kids.

Just asked my wife about the window thing as she owned a window manufacturer, dist., etc and she said aluminum for sure in your area as vynil will expand and contract too much with your temps. Wood would be second.

Friday and the trusses are up

Pretty hot here today.

110 at noon, 5 guys with hammers and one crane operator.

The trusses are up, beams are up, some of the plywood roof are nailed down.
A few changes has to be made in front. The 3 little windows won't fit so we are going with sky lights on the eastern side. We will make changes as we work.

We now have a steps to the upper level. Totally different from last week.
Last 30 days of construction (we hope). We will be totally under roof by Tuesday afternoon.
Electricians are happy that we have finished this part. Now they can run their lines.

Tile installer came out and remeasured the bathroom. Added a 2x4 window in the bath area.

Clearing out motar so the beam would fit

These guys trust each other. Something that big floating around held by two straps
