Anyone in Central Asia, Altai-Russia & Mongolia between mid-July and end-August 2012?

Hi Guys,
As the thread title says: Anyone in that part of the world at that time? I’ve teamed up with a predominately Dutch group of bikers to share a container from Holland to Almaty in Kazakhstan, opening container on 16 July. Then most people are going their separate ways. Maybe some are going the same as me, who knows… Most seem to be riding back to Europe.

I intend to maybe do a 3 week loop through Uzbek, Taj, Kyrg and back to Almaty. Then in early August head through the Altai region of Russia and enter through the western border into Mongolia and ride to UB.

I’ll be on a modified (and ancient) Transalp (stiffer suspension, big tank, soft luggage and Pirelli MT21 tyres). I’ve done a lot of green-laning in the UK and abroad, mainly on a DRZ, so not scared of the rough(er) stuff, but I do like to drink beer in the evening. I intend to camp/stay in cheap guesthouses and eat in the street/off my camping stove.

Anyone in the area, maybe doing something similar? I’m not particularly looking for somebody to ride with the whole trip and I definitely don’t want to hold anybody’s hand, but possibly you’re going the same way on the same day and we can ride a little together.

Hi Chris,

I'm leaving South Korea at 24 June for Vladivostok and head west thru Mongolia, Altai and will enter Kazakstan. Will stop over in Tatarstan(Russia) for a short holiday. Will contineu my travel to Black sea area and will pass via Georgia to Turkey to travel via balkan countries back to middle europe. I guess this will keep me 2 to 2,5 months busy but hope to meet other riders along the route. Look out for a GSA from another dutch guy!

Wow, a full Dutch invasion!

I'm a Brit myself, but occasionally use a German passport, when it's cheaper for visas or where my government's "foreign policy initiatives"

don't allow me in. Look out for a matt-black/rat Transalp. I'll post a picture of the bike some time.

Im leaving Warsaw Poland at the end of June, beggining July. Going only via Russia to Vlad. Then ferry to Japan. Only main road as a transit. Safe trip guys. Romek

Errr, my plan is describe in post #1. I'm not going anywhere near the Black Sea.

I'm a Swiss citizen.
Now I'm in Kazan, Russia. I'm heading to Tasantha border.
I will enter Mongolia and lead to UB as well.
If you want, we can share these "non roads" for a while.
I'm on a 1200 GS.

Ha,
I will definitely be unable to travel with you at this date.
My visa force me to enter August 4th. I'm already too close to Mongolia to slow very much.
Running fast I can reach it in 6 or 7 days.
Running slow, I can take another three weeks.
But 6 weeks... I can't.
That's a shame.

See you somewhere on the road.
