Installing a CPR air filter on my 990

Some details.

My 990 is a 2010 Adv with a Remus Revolution TI 2 into 1 exhaust. I had been running the 2011 R map which helped the top end when compared to the standard ADV map. When I installed the CPR filter I knew I would be getting more air so I loaded the European 2011 R "Akropovic" map (KM601EU1180232Map.hex). These maps are known to put extra fuel into the system and on inspection in TuneECU, it did.

Nels, from 2 Wheel Dyno works, put the bike on the dyne and after a few runs said the fuel map was really very good for the setup. He decided to leave it as is and "smooth" out the ignition advance. After working on that he needed to add a bit more fuel based on ignition adjustments. Then he said, I got about 10 more HP with that change, take it for a test ride and let me know what you think.

Well, just putting the CPR on made a huge difference in power and the modifications Nels made to the map was another big boost

I rode 280 miles to get to Nels and another 100 after so I had time to do a before/after seat-of-the-pants comparison and what a difference the new map makes. The 990 pulls so strong now it's simply amazing. Passing is effortless - just open the throttle.

Tomorrow I take the moto off-road so I'll see how that work - I'm betting I'll need a bit more throttle control

If you're installed the CPR on your 990, I would load the Akropovic map. I guessing that if you're not running a 2 into 1, then you will need to add fuel too. I'd also suggest you take the bike to a Dyno and get a custom Tune if for no other reason then to ensure that you are not hurting the motor.

Do you have a dyno graph?.

And i also did noticed that the AKRA map isn't that bad in combo with the CPR filter.
At my bike between 3500-5500rpm it is almost 1:1 only before and after that rpm are some changes.

stock pipes with akra cans.

I know its addictive

I like the increase in torque at 5 to 6 thousand rmp.

So you used Two Wheel Dyno Works as per the dyno sheet ?

Why did you decide not to build a heat shield baffle between the engine and the CPR base plate ?

It's a long haul to the Seattle area for me for tuning, anyone have a tuner closer to Southern Idaho ?

A customer alerted us to this thread and we wanted to let everyone know that this MAP sensor issue has been fixed early on. For some reason our test bikes had more than enough wire length to meet up but some bikes do not. Probably a difference in who was making the harnesses. We have since moved the map sensor to the front of the base plate where A: It cannot interfere with the throttle plates if installed improperly and B: The wire loom will easily reach it. All of our dealers have these models now. (We also stopped putting those impossible to remove stickers on the plate, sorry about that!)

13% improvement on HP and 15% on Torque! Very impressive.

So.... you gonna share your custom map on TuneECU?

Moto-Treks, I am really curious how you are finding the low to mid throttle fueling after having it tuned. I have been considering taking my bike to Nels.

Yes, two wheel dyno works run by Nels. When I was there he recieved a call from Redline so he is now going to be tuning their AMA super bikes.

I don't see a need for a heat shield. I know it may help gain some more HP but I really don't need anymore. The 990 had tons of power before and now it has butt loads

The graph above is not stock compared to the CPR, its the CPR with the stock AKRA map compared to a custom map. I'd say just adding the CPR had a simialar gain over stock. I would have been happy with just the AKRA map but I wasn't sure if the mapping was right for this setup. As it turned out, the 990 was very happy with the standard AKRA map, it's just more happy now

41 mpg the first 150 miles, 40 the next 200. Prior to this mod I was getting between 40 - 43

The 2010's never had the knotchy low end throttle response like ther early models. I installed the 2011 R map and it was even smother. Right before leaving to see Nels I loaded the 2011 AKRN map and it was also smooth. Give him a call as he has worked 990 before and may have a solution - but hurry, he'll e at Laguna Seca soon.

That would sure make it easier to install as you could skip the whole cut the wires and add 5 inches step
